I suspect that someone who put such a sign on his house and was himself armed, should he shoot an intruder, would be adjudged guilty of murder because he had that sign that effectively notifies a home invader that it is safe to invade that home.

No, it just says they can't bring their gun in, nothing about what you can have in your own home. Life ain't fair.

I disagree. Just because you forbid others from being armed on your property in no way implies that you're unarmed. You'd prohibit your neighbor from parking in your driveway, but you park there don't you?
