U police report to the U prez typically. I find it odd that many universities have their own police. Makes the police reports easier to control.

Ohio State is the same way. Probably a good thing as it would be a huge burden on the Columbus PD (already responsible for 800,000 people and 230 square miles.)

Well, a local U got their own police 'cause they thought the city Police weren't providing enough service.

I'm sure that U's have plenty of problems and their priorities are different, but a private police force does tend to keep "happenings" out of the papers (not that we really have one of those anymore).
