Gov. Rick Perry stated at the outset of his presidential campaign that he is running for president based on his principles and leadership accomplishments, not his oratorical skills. Media focus on his debate missteps deliberately ignores Perry's record and charisma.
America's third president - Thomas Jefferson - was a lousy public speaker. He was literally a genius, and his singular eloquence as a writer is seen in his prose in the Declaration of Independence and other writings.
But Jefferson was no speaker, so much so that he only gave a couple speeches in his entire two-term presidency. He was so bad that he fulfilled his constitutional requirement to give an annual State of the Union by sending a written document to Congress.
This media obsession with the cosmetics of Perry's presentation willfully ignores the substance of his agenda. Perry's proposals on fundamental overhauls on tax reform, energy, healthcare, and re-empowering the states through federalism could make him a transformational president if he enacts them.
These proposals arise from a massive public record. An Air Force captain, Perry is the only major candidate with military experience. And his subsequent quarter-century of elected office includes a decade as governor enacting tort reform, education reform, and business-friendly policies.

I've watched them all. Let's just say he hasn't had one good debate.
The untold secret is that "the big money" has always come from small donors, many small donors.
Otherwise, the RNC would not waste its resources on phone banks, wherein it costs sixty cents for every dollar raised, just to fund the calling.
This season, fundraising sucks bigtime, precisely because all those "small donors" have been bled dry by both the commie Democrats and the commie RINOs.
Palin was sitting on a half billion in pledges, immediately, had she announced, while the rest of these clowns call a news conference if they can raise ten million in a month.
I could never make it in the surface fleet with all the glad handing and polishing brass.
“Its always good to see the calvary arrive!”
I actually didn’t like it when they crucified Him there.
But, if the cavalry had showed up to save him, he couldn’t have saved us....
You can think he is the bestest guy ever but he has shown us that he aint that good
Oh, the irony.
Our country is going to hell in a hand basket based because the stupid federal policies and regulations that are killing businesses. Contrary to your one note posting, illegal immigrants aren’t the cause of the problems. Your and your blind hatred are blinding you from realizing that it’s the people in DC that is the problem. They are the ones making the rules forcing the states to deal with the problem.
Until Fedzilla is seriously cut down to it’s constitutional boundaries none of the problems this country faces will be solved.
LOL. I don’t make it a point to watch liberals arguing with each other. But the “one” is and will be continues to be touted by the media as a good communicator, despite the fact that he is addicted to teleprompters.
Perry just isn’t going to be able to compete. We’ve seen him implode time and time again when he gets nervous. That is not an attribute of someone that will have to deal with a hostile media, and hostile foreign heads on a regular basis.
Indeed.
I will say this for Cain, He hits the Joe everyman thing hard.
I think you’re right and you made some good points.
We shall see what we shall see.
The notion of super committees and federal reserve bankers puts me off.
Splain them empowerment zone to me again.
I wont claim your a$$hat fraud of a candidate, thats for damned sure. Why do I want to support a blended clone of Bush, Romney and McCain? Conservatives deserve a helluva lot better than cronyboy La Raza Rick.

are you on every Perry thread?
9 9 9 is 11 11 11 in octal
Thank you for proving my point.
The sad truth is as long as the people with this absolutist mindset are out in front the problem will not be solved. Were you aware that Jim Gilchrist endorsed Perry's plan. Yet to listen to the absolutists you would think that Perry supports illegal immigration. Of course then again you just illustrated that if someone doesn't walk in lock step with you they must be for illegal immigration. No wonder we keep losing on this issue.
He doesnt know **** about the border.
Perry has been clear, the Fed is the problem
We round then up on our dime and the Feds let them go.
But somehow it’s Perrys fault.
There is no question he is right.
I've read posts from freepers who live on or near the border and they've made great points about what can and cannot be done. I've looked at Perry's position and he has it right.
The country is never going to support taking all the children and loading them into box cars and shipping them to a country they've never been to and have no connection to other than genetics. So what do you do? I think the best thing is to try and make Americans of them and secure the border. Also, get a fed govt that will enforce the law with employers and make the penalties so severe that they don't want to hire illegals. But then again this position makes me an "ILLEGAL lover".
Its complicated, but to lay illegal immigration on Rick Perry is preposterous.
Yes, you’re right. Because Texas state college tuition rates ar not only the most important issue facing America today, it’s the ONLY issue! Screw energy, the economy, jobs, defense, gun rights. abortion, green scams, the global warming hoax, cutting spending, reforming taxes, appointing good judges, etc. And he said “heartless”! OK, he didn’t exactly ever say the word “heartless”, but I’ll keep putting it in quotes, because writing “doesn’t have a heart” is too long.
Well, that may be. We shall see as the process continues. Perry does seem have a quality of stick-to-itiveness that is the mark of one who does learn from his own mistakes, which is distinctly unlike the One occupying the Oval Office who doubles down and reemphasizes his mistakes the more thay are exposed as such. The so-called “green economy” measures are the perfect case in point. And the “stimulus” is another example. We try for you, Argentina!
