Four out of ten Republicans believe Mitt Romney would be the most likely candidate to beat President Obama in the general election, according to a new CBS News poll.
Cain trailed in the category with just 20 percent...
Electability, however, was not most Republicans' top priority when selecting a candidate: 58 percent said they believe it's more important to have a nominee who agrees with them on the issues than one who can beat Mr. Obama next year. Thirty-nine percent said the opposite.
But the race could still change; seven in 10 Republican primary voters say it is still too early to say for sure which candidate they will support.

Now that we are running out of "anti-Romney" candidates, could it be time for Sarah Palin to change her mind and run?
She is far more qualified than Cain...
Priority ONE - must beat Obama. No matter who or what. Failure is not an option for America.
SeeeEEE BS
The liberal media is pushing Romney because they know Obama can beat him.
Imagine that!
Ok, perrywinkle, no one agrees with you except your heroes at CBS,
I don't think that would be very wise.
“Electability” is a made up concept used to promote or destroy candidates.
Who are these republicans who don’t care if the candidate shares their beliefs? /smh
These must be the Romney voters. Beating Obama is more important to them than actually having conservative policies that will save America. When Romney is president and continues all of Obama’s left-wing policies they’ll support him unquestioningly simply because he’s a republican.
romney has the best hair according to 69% of Republicans. After the useless electability question, we should ask them what is the chance of a viable 3rd party run if romney is the GOP nominee.
Nearly every poll released for the last 6 months has shown that Romney would do best against Obama.
This poll just reflects that people have seen the other polls, and know that (according to the polls) Romney would do best against Obama.
It has no bearing what-so-ever on how they will vote, who they like, who they are likely to vote for, or anything else. It just means they are aware of the polls and what the talking heads say.
nonsense.
Especially coming from CBS, I don’t believe a word of it.
They are famous for making their polls say what they want them to say and CBS is about as far from an objective source as you can get.
This is the same template used by the MSM for McCain in 2008. Romney will be the Republican darling of the MSM until the nomination, then he’ll be savaged.
With the number of open primaries, I expect plenty of Dems will pull a GOP ballot to vote for Romney. All primaries should be closed.
The liberal media is pushing Romney because they know Obama can beat him.
Screw this poll. I don’t think it’s going to work this time. The people have wised up to the liberal media. I hope.
partisans, who only care about who wins, politics is like a sport to them, they only care that “their” teams wins.
And it is partisans who would make Romney a worse president than Obama. Because Romney could propose...ANYTHING and the partisans in the party would vote for it just because he has an R after his name.
That’s why it’s so important to stop Romney because by getting the democrats to support his liberal agenda combined with the partisans within the party we will have a liberal agenda pushed on us that Obama never could have passed.
Romney would NOT beat Obama.
Unfortunately, that way things look now, he is likely to become the Republican nominee and we will end up with Obama for four more long years, at the end of which the US won’t exist as we know it.
I liked Sarah, but then I didn’t think she would have a chance against Obama. However, given the current situation of the Republican candidates, I am starting to think that maybe she would have a better chance than any of those currently running. Elections are very dynamic.
If Romney wins the primaries contest, BHO will be president again, whether it’s Romney or BHO in the WH.
Any of our candidates less Paul, Huntsman could beat Obama!
. Cain trailed in the category with just 20 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry, each with six percent. Thirteen percent of respondents said they didn't know which candidate was most likely to beat Mr. Obama.
In this particular prez election, Cain is FAR more electable than Romney. Obama cannot pull the race card with Cain, plus Cain has real principles as opposed to being a windsock like Romney.
But most of all, Romney is a snoozer, even his supporters are not enthusiastic about him, he is boring wonder bread and just as plastic.
