Mike McQueary, the assistant Nittany Lions coach who told a grand jury that in 2002 he saw former coach Jerry Sandusky sexually assault a young boy, has been placed on administrative leave. The move was announced by Penn State Interim President Rod Erickson at a news conference that began at 4 p.m.

McQ was a football player...not a Rhodes scholar. All of his training at PSU was to play football. All of his experience trying to make it in the NFL was about football. He was at PSU in 2002 as a graduate asssistant to coach football. I contend that McQ was an expert in football...but nothing more
Sadly for the players that train has already left the station.
I would not waant to be the target of Nebraska trash talk across the line tomorrow. Even if Penn State qualifies for a bowl why would any bowl committee in its right mind extend an invitation?
As for the Penn State football program? Most Juniors, sophomores and freshmen players will probably find other schools. Ditto recent Paterno recuits. Not fair, but that’s what will happen. I wonder if Beaver Stadium itself will survive the Penn State-Sandusky scandal.
Come to think of it, maybe Sandusky has had the final laugh after being rejected as head coach at PSU.
No, not a free pass...but the reality is that the Attorney General wants more victims to come forward. When victims and their families see another witness (McQueary) being threatened...they are going to hesitate to come forward.
I'm someone who has reported crime and been sneered at by the cops, and I know others who have. PA is among our more corrupt States, and McQ grew up there. He knew that Sandusky was a powerful guy who had enticed millionaires into financing his "foundation." He knew better than some of the self-righteous vicarious heroes and second-guessers here what could happen if he went up against S. alone, his word against S's. He reported it to authorities, and from then on it was their game. They are to blame.
And he saw that it was not investigated but that he DID get the WR coaching job!
I repeat ...
What would you do if you in that situation?
Yup, if one were to take the temperature on this forum, one might conclude that Sandusky is the good guy and that McQueary is the evil culprit. If only the evil McQ had stopped Sandusky from the act then Sandusky would have never sexually molested anyone.
Its all McQs fault!!!
sarc: off
How about Head Coach! The dude's a real hero!
Uh, did you read the grand jury report? McQueary kept his mouth shut till the guys in the suits came knocking on the door ...
Forget reporting it!
He should have bashed Sandusky's head in with a pipe, then let Sandusky explain why he and the boy are naked in the shower and the boys anus is bleeding.
McQueary looked into the eyes of a 10-year-old boy, who was in the process of being raped and McQueary ran away.
He ran away and left the boy there to fend for himself.
I forgot. Football players are always faggin in the showers. Let's move on. Nothing here.
I repeat ...
What would you do if you in that situation?
If I had, in good faith, reported this and seen that after a year or so that the situation had not been addressed then I would have found a new place of employment and reported the crime to the police then.
You really are losing it.
If only the evil McQ had stopped Sandusky from the act then Sandusky would have never sexually molested anyone.
Interesting way of putting things. Did you read what you wrote before you hit the 'post' button?
And you criticize us for second-guessing McQueary. Go figure.
Incidentally, McQ had only been at PSU as a coach since 2000, after washing out with the pros. His career options weren't great at that point, and yet people think he should have played the role of a cop against a national figure with connections out the wazoo, all by himself. He did report what he saw, and his testimony was ignored at the time.

Can you honestly tell if you would have done what you think McQ should have done at the time? And make sure you answer that question knowing that in war many of the soldiers can 'fight on' when the first bombs fall while some become instantly shellshocked and can't 'fight on'. Are you sure you are the soldier who would 'fight on' when your mates head is blown off or might you be the one who freezes? Remember, McQueary never had the time to prepare for what he saw when he looked into the shower.
You mean he was compelled to testify? I didn't read that in the GJ report. What page?
Anyway, I posited a question earlier, you must have missed it:
That said, if McQueary is as evil as everyone says, why on earth did he say anything at all? He could have just walked away and ignored the situation and saved himself, and probably the university, a whole lot of trouble.
McQueary was a former quarterback and a coach. Freezing is less likely. His father is also a POS for not telling him to call the cops. Career before ethics, the collegiate way.
And you criticize us for second-guessing McQueary. Go figure.
Yeah, but I have left a place of employment because I didn't think that the managment did the right thing. Can you say that you have done what you expected McQueary to do?
He was a former starting quarterback for PSU. I guess that 'slipped your mind"?
Also I guess you missed my #189 to you. Just sayin'
No kidding, kept quiet in 2002. Coach in 2004. Uber-villian 2011. Karma!
