Mike McQueary, the assistant Nittany Lions coach who told a grand jury that in 2002 he saw former coach Jerry Sandusky sexually assault a young boy, has been placed on administrative leave. The move was announced by Penn State Interim President Rod Erickson at a news conference that began at 4 p.m.

He may have arranged his disappearance. I just don’t think he was able to black mail anyone. Strange timing though. He had announced his retirement.

Oh so easy and cheap for you to say. I have to assume that you have never witnessed a crime, made a police report, or spoken out against something you saw in a powerful organization. I've lived in a place where people get killed for reporting crimes. There are rapes on college campuses all the time, and often the administration and campus cops cover them up; bad for business, don't you know.

For all McQ knew, the act, while illegal, was consensual, or the kid would not have corroborated his testimony, and Sandusky would have denied everything. Then McQueary is fired and goes to jail for assaulting and battering one of his superiors, a nationally known sports icon, a friend of Paterno, a longtime neighbor and friend of his father, and Sandusky is free to strike again.

Let's assume it was not McQ, but a player who came on the crime scene. Can you imagine the fate of a player who assaults a coach? McQ hardly outranked a player. Who's going to believe him vs. bigshot Sandusky, esp. if the kid is made to "disappear," or bullied into denying everything?

You could blame the victims for not running away, or not telling authorities themselves, and that would be terribly unfair also.

Here's a question everyone should be asking: Why is all this only coming out now, when McQueary gave the incriminating testimony almost a decade ago? Someone else is to blame. Someone much more powerful than Mike McQueary. McQ is in fact more responsible for blowing this case open than any other single individual, yet you get off damning him.

In the last 10 days there was a video of a small child in China who was run over by a car, left to lay there while people stepped over her. Then she was run over again.

This outrage is the same.

It is disgusting.

Thats not a good enough response. If McQueary knew about Sandusky then why did he bother to report it to Paterno in 2002?

Ok. Try these.

Sandusky threatened to kill him, or

McCreary knew he had the leverage he needed to get that WR coaching job.

I cannot believe he saw what he says he saw and not just barge in and stop it. Then call the cops.

So you don't think Sandusky was banging little boys?

Where in this thread does it indiacte that I didn't belive Sandusky was banging boys?

A ten year-old child cannot consent to anal sex or any other kind of sex!!!!!!!!!! If he had taken the kid to the nearest hospital a rape kit would have been done.

You have to think this whole thing through. McQueary may well have been told that “the authorities have been informed and they are working on this. Now you need to be quiet, or you may mess up their investigation.” He may have been told not to alarm Sandusky by changing his behavior toward him. Law enforcement does not necessarily act on every crime; they may wait until they get more evidence or a stronger case. In the meantime, they want the perp to think everything is still OK.

You give McQueary way too much credit, imo. The reason this is all coming out now is because one of Sandusky’s victims finally ratted him out, and then more came forward. McQueary chose to talk rather than perjure himself because for all he knew, one of those victim witnesses was the one he saw being raped and walked away. The victim could identify him.

Except that McQueary testified under oath that that was not what happened. Please read the grand jury report.

We were discussing the incident in 2002...I claim that McQueary did not know about Sandusky at that time. You stated that every knew about Sandusky back in 2002...But McQueary did report the incident...what reason would he have had to report the incident if he already was aware of Sandusky's habiots. If you tell me that Sandusky threatened to kill him in 2002 then why did McQueary report the incident at that time?

The interim head coach has apparently never been married.

I’m surprised they didn’t name Galen Hall as the interim head coach, as he was a former Gators head coach.

Point me to the post where I claimed that Sandusky wasn't banging kids?

Thank you for posting that, Hellbender.

That has to be one of the most oily, self-pitying attempts at rationalizing away -- and apologizing for -- a depraved act of moral cowardice that I've ever read.

Does Free Republic have a Wall of Shame? If so, both your last two posts deserve to be on there.

Why would he not be able to blackmail someone?

He had the power.

Do you have any idea what happens to people who intervene in crimes, rather than call the cops? Even cops are in danger when they respond to "domestic incidents." A cop can take a victim in for a rape exam, but a common citizen?.. get real. The boy might have refused to file a complaint, or denied sex happened. Crime victims do that often, especially when there is an emotional bond with the abuser. Then McQueary is in deep trouble for getting involved.

A lawyer once told me: "Nothing in law is simple." A retired police detective told me: "There aren't any champions of justice out there." Unfortunately, both statements are true. Anybody who thinks McQueary took the easy way out is, frankly, a naive fool.

[For all McQ knew, the act, while illegal, was consensual]

Btw, I have read this rationale more than once on FR, and I find it really sick actually. Why do I feel that “justification” would not even be made if it had been a 10 year-old girl Sandusky had had in that shower. 10 year-old children cannot consent to sexual acts EVER. PERIOD.
