The sad thing is, I’ve met a fair number of Iranian immigrants (most US citizens). IME, they tend to be only nominally Muslim, very Westernized, and fond of America. They’re probably the most “normal” of anyone from the Muslim Middle East (I emphasise Muslim as Christian Lebanese and of course Israelis wouldn’t fall in the same category) and culturally seem to fit in the US rather well.
Their government is crazy, and there are just enough wackos in the country to keep the Islamists in power, but in raw numbers, there are still a LOT of Iranian people who I’d much rather have over for dinner than, say, the average Saudi.
Nevertheless they are under the control of a police state pure and simple, a state which can and might do anything conceivable. Paul's blindness to this simple reality is inexplicable.
