I just checked his biography in Wikipedia and it says there that he returned to radio in 1984 as a talk show host at KFBK in Sacramento, California, where he replaced Morton Downey, Jr

At that time I hadn't even heard of him. the first time I heard of him was when he had his TV show

He went national in '88, IIRC.

I still miss his television show, which-along with Dennis Prager-was the best programming after midnight that ever aired.
