Folks, this is Joe Paterno's legacy.
E-mails jump into my inbox defending Paterno...
I won't remember what Paterno did, but what he didn't do. What he didn't do is what got him fired...
Firing Joe Paterno doesn't fix everything, but it's a great start.

What would you do if a member of your staff was raping little boys?
you've got that right...a homosexual coverup of the highest order. When I worked for the Indiana D.O.C., I signed forms indicating what I had the authority to do in certain instances. In every instance, I was required to notify someone at a certain level of authority, depending on circumstances. In no circumstance was I authorized to notify nor to give information to someone on the outside. There was a stipulation that I was not required to break any laws, but a very direct order was to be followed. I would have followed those guidelines, but I would have also payed very close attention as to what steps had been taken concerning any incident. I am happy to say that there were indeed several incidents, and all were handled to my satisfaction.
You can look it up.
Move on. Even Joe admits he didn’t do the right thing.
PA law gives specific permission for non-company officers to go directly to the outside if they desire.
If Sandusky was guilty of 'raping little boys' in 1998, why was he not arrested and jailed?
Right now I believe Paterno is getting pretty harsh treatment, but I can change my mind. Do you know the answer?
First of all, you don't need to make things up out of thin air when the 23-page Grand Jury Presentment is available. Grand Jury Presentment
Just go to pp. 6-7.
#1...this didn't happen on the night of a game...'twas the first weekend in March.
#2...No convo took place that night...even tho McQueary witnessed it. Instead he called Paterno Sat. a.m. and then went over to Paterno's house.
Other than that, nice laissez-faire attitude you presented as to how YOU might react if an eyewitness reported to you a sexual assault upon a kid.
Do the world around you a favor, Peter. Don't coach other people's kids or put yourself in a volunteer position overseeing them. Not sure if such a carefree personality would be a good mix protecting pre-teen kids in today's world. P. 7 says there
So did I. What do you think I was saying?
SEX RING COVERUP.
Consider this hypothetical. Your son went to a Sandusky camp, he took him to the PSU football facilities as a special treat (what kid wouldn't want to go there). While there they played some ball or whatever, wrestled and then showered together. This occurred in 2004. Now the grand jury report comes out and your son comes to you and says that he was a victim and he was raped by Sandusky. How would you feel about Paterno now knowing that he had it in his power to stop Sandusky and didn't?
I too was thinking of the eerie similarities between Paterno and the bishops.
I also find it hard to believe that no reporters ever or followed up on a rumor that maybe...just maybe...there was something not quite right with Sandusky. The guy didn’t just wake up one day and decide to start molesting little boys...he’s probably been doing it his whole life and yet NOBODY knew anything?
THis is probably way out left field but I heard a sports talk guy who really really enjoys conspiracy theories about sports saying “What if McQuerey (sp?) was also raped by Sandusky when he was a teen?” Apparently it’s geographically possible but, like I said, it’s a conspiracy theory.
I think there’s so much more disgusting information that will be coming out that a lot of us are going to be shocked and nauseated.
You were posting that Joe had no cupability in this whole thing which is flat out false.
He didn't report it to outside authorities. THAT is why he deserves criticism.
This is what we know for certain.
He didn't 'enable' pedophelia, as you imply. You should be more careful making such charges.
Did Paterno not have the power to put it to stop if he wanted to, even if it meant harming the program?
Seriously, I'd like to know. I have no reason to protect Paterno, but I wonder why everyone is carrying on like the old guy himself is a pedophile. If there is evidence that Paterno knew Sandusky was raping boys but didn't report it, I would've thought he'd be charged with the athletic & finance directors.
If you know anything I don't please share.
With some pics of his buds of late, now I have my doubts.
This looks somewhat queer to me.
Whatever. He knew and he didn't stop Sandusky. Every boy that was raped after Paterno knew (at least as early as 1998) is a boy that wouldn't have been raped if Paterno had stood up like a man.
Did he ever even go up to Sandusky, a personal friend he worked with for 30 years, and confront him about it?
I would hope so. But we really don’t know what the nature of their relationship was from 1999 onward.
“If there is evidence that Paterno knew Sandusky was raping boys but didn’t report it, I would’ve thought he’d be charged with the athletic & finance directors.”
