A pro-family advocate finds it odd that a group of homosexual activists has admitted to working to help defeat Mississippi's personhood amendment on Tuesday. In an announcement released the day after the vote, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund admits to sending activists to Jackson, Mississippi, to help with a phone bank and "stand in solidarity" with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and other abortion proponents. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) thinks it was a peculiar alliance, since homosexuals cannot procreate. "This is a group that works hand-in-hand with so-called 'sexual freedom advocates,' who are the guys who say basically no sex laws whatsoever, sadomasochism, [and] people should be allowed to have an adult bookstore right in your neighborhood," LaBarbera explains. "I mean, these are the types, these sexual radicals, that the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force works with." Peter LaBarbera (AFTAH)A spokesperson for the pro-homosexual group states in the press release: "If it had passed, Initiative 26 would have become the nation's most restrictive law against abortion and birth control," and they deem the defeat "a victory for Mississippi and for all those who value women's lives and the right of people to make very personal -- even life-saving -- decisions about their own bodies free of unwarranted government intrusion." But the AFTAH president suggests the coalition's ultimate goal is to push moral standards and Judeo-Christian thinking aside for the sake of selfish interests. "For the left, it's all about these newfangled rights which are antithetical to God's created order," he notes. "So they work well together." LaBarbera is also highly critical of outgoing Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour (R) for voting for the pro-life measure, then "talking it down" in the last few days of the campaign.
