President Obama echoes the Occupy Wall Street Movement in demonizing the top 1 percentsuggesting that prosperous people somehow create painful problems for the rest of us.
But the president never bothers to answer a basic question: who makes up the top 1 percent? Economists Joe Bakija, Adam Cole and Bradley Heim have completed authoritative research on leading earnerssome 1,400,000 taxpayers in 2010, each of whom earned more than $380,000.

From listening to the OWS and their semi-incoherent rants, I would guess that the “one percent” is actually the 53% gainfully employed and the 99% are the professionally unemployed.

Dear OWS Movement, I am a member of the top 53%. That is, I am a tax paying member of society helping to carry the weight of the other 43% of society -- a significant portion of which is unnecessarily dead weight. I think you'll find it more productive to target the 43% instead of the 1%. It's a larger audience, cumulatively has more to offer, and is representative of an ideology that ought not be advanced in a Democratic Republic. Unless you, yourself, are a member of this 43%, or a Marxist/Socialist/Communist, I'm sure you'll understand. If you do understand, the Tea Party welcomes you. Help us make a positive difference. Signed, We the People

Aargh -- an excellent point was there to be made, but utterly destroyed by typing 43% instead of 47% ... Now the OWS people will mock my math instead of looking in their mirrors. A teachable moment completely lost to them ... pity.

I don't care who the top 1% is.
I am in the top 53% that are paying all federal income taxes and I resent the 47% who don't.
