Rick Perry says he “stepped in it” when he couldn't remember the third federal department he would abolish if elected, but insisted the debate blunder wouldn't force him out of the Republican presidential field.

“Oh, shoot, no,” Mr. Perry told The Associated Press on Thursday morning, the day after making the error during a GOP debate. Asked whether his campaign, which is struggling to regain traction, could survive, Mr. Perry replied: “This ain't a day for quitting nothing.”

"Mr. Perry replied: “This ain't a day for quitting nothing.”"

But, it may be a day for the governor to speak proper English.

And he may want to revisit the the lesson he was taught at A&M regarding double negatives.

How important could the department be if he can’t even remember its name!? Go ahead and abolish it.

'Sympathy' here; but the 'gaffometer' is ticking; and the only candidates that must wear one; are Republicans. Perry already 'over time' allotted for Repubs making mistakes.

No one ever said life is fair; and Repubs certainly know, they will be held accountable; whereas 'Obama' et al; will not be. Perry surely, will be bowing out soon. Cannot imagine his nerves; going again; before world in debate situation. Hard on Repubs watching, for sure.

As for his speaking with 'local flavor'. . .he needs to leave that one at home.

Whatever; clearly 'he' is not going to be a winner per National scene.

“This ain't a day for quitting nothing.”

Unlike Odingo, I'm sure he's got the best interests of the nation at heart. But I think we've heard enough from Gov. Perry at this point.

He also said, “Nothin’ like a good piece of hickory” and “Right turn, Clyde.”

He was quite the philosopher.

Ain’t? Can we stop using that word? What is going on? I’m so sick and tired of hearing it. It’s not cool, it’s not trendy and it’s not correct. And yes, double negatives as well. It’s one thing to talk like this among your friends or in casual conversation, but lately on the news (Neil Cavuto is the worst!) ain’t is the word du jour. I personally think they all think it makes them sound hip and cool. It doesn’t, it makes them sound like your Grandma looks when she puts on a mini skirt. Stop it. Grow up. You are not rappers or hillbillies. The correct word should be “isn’t”. Learn it. Use it. We are not impressed with bad grammar.

There was a cartoon back in the days of the Algerian War (circa 1958) showing Charles De Gaulle sitting besides a hospital bed, in which is a skeleton labeled “Algeria”. De Gaulle is saying “Cheer up! Where there’s life, there’s hope!”
