Sandusky's 2001 book Touched ?

Jerry Sandusky wrote a book called "Touched"

I hope you're never in charge of a youth program.

Paterno would have been fired , and possibly tried, here in Ohio as a high school coach under these circumstances.

What part of enabler don't you understand. Read the Madden articles; they all knew about Sandusky by 1998 and set up his retirement in 1999 as part of the coverup.

You are not allowed to think that unless you present evidence in court and are willing to be cross examined by a 800/hour attorney hired by an alumnus of Penn State.

Come on...Zeigler had his ESPN axe to grind and 23 pages of a Grand Jury report is just too much reading...

Are you kidding ..he knew ten year old boys were having anal sex with grown men and he though he did all he had to do by reporting it to his superiors. He’s a miserable bastard who put football ahead of the lives of these children...what a creep!!

It’s a shame that Paterno is caught up with these scum

Sandusky is his guy, his creation. He put Sandusky in the position of authority that Sandusky enjoyed and he sheltered Sandusky from the consequences of his actions.

Paterno is one of the scum.

and will play the price for something he had nothing to do with.

He had everything to do with it. Assuming that 1998 was really the very first that Paterno had ever heard of Sandusky's proclivities (which is hard to believe), from the moment that he had knowledge of Sandusky's behavior and did not make sure that it ended, he was an accomplice.

He reported the problem to his superiors

And they did nothing. And he saw that they did nothing. And he let it end there.

And, let's be honest - who was really the superior in an interaction between a faceless educational bureaucrat and the famous two-time national champion coach and local legend?

If Paterno had said: "get the cops in here now and investigate this, or I will tell the board that I simply can't work with you" - what would've happened?

I would bet that they told him to shut up so the school wouldn’t get caught up in it.

I see, so he was . . . "just following orders" then.

Paterno is one of the best and most respected coaches in the country and his record proves it.

Best? Maybe.

Most respected? Not anymore.

His record is now meaningless.

Again, I would blame the school, not Paterno.

You cannot separate the school and Paterno. They are joined at the hip.

"I'll wager a months pay that Paterno will not be with us a year from now. That's what happens in cases like this."

I've been thinking the same thing.

I’m laughing at how so many want to hang this all on Joe when it went on for years and there were many higher ups directly using their authority to cover this up. Starting to think Joe is the scapegoat because the pedophile ring is bigger than anyone imagines and they want to distract us with endless pontification on old Joe to let the rats disappear down the hole with no charges.

I think you may have misunderstood my post.

While recognizing that he is not the child molester in this scandal, Joe Paterno was almost certainly an enabler of a child molester and I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.

I consider him to be a moral coward.

My question to Paterno would be: “Would have you have handled this matter the same way, if you had been told that your grandson was one of Sandusky’s victims?”

In light of the allegations of a wide-spread sex ring, it could very well be that Paterno was threatened in no uncertain terms, that if he did talk to the police, he and/or his family members would be harmed.

AND he seemingly was not concerned enough about it to AT THE VERY LEAST prohibit the pedophile from having free, and often private, access to facilities at PSU, which is certainly worse than just looking the other way.

This is a particularly transparent strawman argument.

Not one person criticizing Paterno has ever said that Paterno and Paterno alone bears sole responsibility for these crimes and that the other enablers besides him should get off scot free.

What they are saying, and which you are disingenuously ignoring, is that Paterno should not be let off the hook for his responsibility.

ESPN and the media are definitely part of the problem. They focus on Joe Paterno's quite limited role in all this and are scrubbing any mention of homosexuality from their coverage.

This is politics for them. They really don't care a fig about little boys being raped. If they did, Barney Frank would have been bounced out of Congress and thrown in jail 20 years ago.
