So, ESPN is the indictable party here and not the gang that apparently did little to stop these heinous, ongoing crimes?? What a lot of old tosh.

I have no doubt that a significant percentage of Americans mistakenly believe that Paterno was fired for having been a child molester.

Well then, you are an arogant, condescending, moron...

Where is this "journalistic" drivel from?

Sandusky's 2001 book Touched ?

It all resulted in a perfect media storm of selfishness and disgrace. One that resulted in the worst ending to a real-life fairy tale in my lifetime and which quite possibly will provoke Paterno’s eventual death.

Got hyperbole?

Following the announcement of the indictments:

Spanier: I fully believe in the honest and integrity of Curley and Schultz.

Paterno: If the allegations are true ...

And they had years to prepare these statements and this is what comes out of there mouths!

It was disgusting to watch the video of Paterno last night laughing and smiling and enjoying all the attention he was getting from the students. The dude’s mind don’t work right.

“Despite what you may have heard from the vast majority of the sports media, we still don’t know for sure what exactly, if anything, Joe Paterno actually did or didn’t do in order to suddenly get fired after 61 years of incredible service to a university he almost literally built.”

If you read the GJ report, and realize that the report to Paterno was not Sandusky’s first incident, and you still don’t know why Joe was fired, then I can’t help you.

Exactly. Blaming the media is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Paterno knew of the abuse and allowed it to continue. He’s accessory after the fact to the shower rape. He’s morally responsible for the crimes that took place after.

Hope he’s indicted with the rest of these sick bastards.

Hope Press on this uncovers other similar rings in other places (DC).

I agree with the description of ESPN - just like MSM their counterparts in the "news" business, they're more interested in shaping the story than reporting it.

But, in this case, the Board of Trustees needed to clean house (In fact they waited too long to do it). The fact that ESPN may have forced the issue speaks more to the tone deafness of PSU's administration than to the sports media.

Hmmm, interesting, perhaps the rush to hang Joe is a bit premature?

Got hyperbole?

I'll wager a months pay that Paterno will not be with us a year from now. That's what happens in cases like this.

Oh, well.

It’s a shame that Paterno is caught up with these scum and will play the price for something he had nothing to do with. He reported the problem to his superiors and I would bet that they told him to shut up so the school wouldn’t get caught up in it. Paterno is one of the best and most respected coaches in the country and his record proves it. Again, I would blame the school, not Paterno.

Joe hung himself.

Allegations against Sandusky have been public for years and yet, despite the fact that ESPN has insisted all week that this is the biggest story to maybe ever hit college sports, I don’t recall ESPN ever bothering to devote any significant time or resources to the long-emerging scandal.

And yet Joe did nothing.

No, it's 13 years too late at the very least.

Probably 25 years too late.

Joe had a known child molester banging ten year olds in his locker room and he let it happen for years. Poor Joe.

I heard a commentator say the reason the Board fired Paterno today is they were mortified over the prospect of 100,000 people standing and cheering Paterno this Saturday, know what they know now about his moral failings, and knowing how bad this would make the whole school look when the truth is more generally known..
