Zero Hedge ^ | 11/09/2011 | Tyler Durden

Rather worryingly, Bloomberg is reporting a Handelsblatt report (due tomorrow) that Mrs. Merkel is investigating ways to enable countries to leave the Euro.

Merkel's CDU Seeks to Make Euro Exits Possible (via Bloomberg)...

Short term this is going to be very hairy.

Long term this is good because either the US and China will run the Euro or there won’t be a Euro and us two will be the biggest dogs on the block.

It’s better to have an orderly advance to the rear.

The Euro isn’t working out as planned and all the lazy economies are now dragging the productive economies into an economic black hole.

I’d say so.

Let me fix this for everyone....

Socialism is not working because the lazy sheep are dragging the productive sheep into the abyss.

We have the same fundamental problem here. Our nation lacks the willingness to experience short term pain for the future and our children. Our leaders will continue to cut the checks even when they are worthless so they won’t have to tell the ugly truth.... we are broke.

I don’t know but I hope it’s true.

The whole EU thing grew too big for its britches.

“I don’t know but I hope it’s true.”

Agree.

I’ve seen conflicting sentiments- some say that it would be a bad idea for Germany to exit the Euro and go back to the D-Mark because exports would be hurt with a stronger Mark relative to the other currencies. But there is a Welt report with the president of the German free trade association stating (I think) that the free market is what matters, and that they can do without the Euro:

I remember when the media wanted us to be deathly afraid of the coming Euro.

It's amazing Obama is happy to repeat Europe's mistakes with the United States and even more amazing voters are happy to empower him to do it!

Merkel would be wise to look for an exit strategy and the UK should be thankful it never gave up the GBP.

Why is this worrisome? The whole EU should disappear.
