Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.
The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.
But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.
One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower...

100% CORRECT
No special powers except I keep informed, unlike you.
I've posted for days here that this wasn't not about football but that it was about a State College Sex ring supplying little boys and that was why Sandusky was protected. Mark Madden who has been writing about (but being ignored) the investigation says that he expects it to break wide open soon.
that same agenda accepted the homosexual pedophile Sandusky to roam with out restriction...it was accepted...he actually was in the gym just last week, showered too...
liberalism is not based on morality or character...its based on expediancy...
that is why women and children in particular are NOT protected by liberal agendas...they NEVER are because so much immorality and pervesion is accepted by liberalism...
you know that people talk...at work, at church, over coffee....no one can tell me that it wasn't common knowledge that Sandusky was a pervert for probably the last 20 yrs.....yet, he was protected..by a very liberal college with a liberal agenda....
“You do realize that when Paterno and McQueary reported their incident, that was the SECOND time that Sandusky had been reported for doing something inappropriate with the SAME kid? Was THAT JoePas responsibility too, even though he likely had never heard about it?”
Huh? Most of the people on the following list knew of the 1998 investigation:
President Spanier
AD Curley
VP Schultz
PSU Attorney Wendell Courtney
Second Mile Attorney Wendell Courtney
University Police (Detective Ronald Shreffler)
State College Police (Detective Ralph Ralston)
Department of Welfare (Investigator Jerry Lauro)
Child Services
County DA Gricar
County Prosecutors
Coach McQueary
Coach Paterno
Various elementary and high school officials
Second Mile officials
Joe Paternos staff including down to the janitors
I actually think you may be right.
Is there any way for Paterno to make amends? Is there any way he can be forgiven?
Spill the beans, tell them everything, and I mean everything he knows.
It makes sense, I wondered why were they so afraid to bust Sandusky...if it was just simply one guy doing this, what’s the big deal, it wouldn’t impact the program that much....as long as he was out of the picture.....but there was a reason he was protected, could it have been what he knew about the program, and threatened them to tell them everything if he was taken down? How was the lid on all this activity kept under wraps for so many years? That doesn’t happen unless very powerful people are involved.
The 64-dollar question here is, what did Paterno know? Now my assumption is that he was all-seeing, and all-knowing? After all, why was he so anxious to hang onto his job, and unwilling to step down, even at the age of 84? For the most part, I thought, well he’s earned the right to go out on his own terms, and what’s he going to do without football, so let him stay? But now it seems he stayed on, so that things wouldn’t be discovered, as they would have been once he left. Maybe true, maybe not...but there’s a lot of odd there, and as Aldo Raine, said in ‘Inglourious Basterds’, “We got a word in English for that kinda odd, it’s called ‘Suspicious.’”
No matter how much you personally may desire to demonize those of us who demand that every one who knew and did nothing be brought to the fullest justice possible.
Paterno wasn't just the coach at the college, he is one of the board of directors for The Second Mile. How demonic can it be to hold someone that connected to Sandusky and the harem he was making himself accountable.
Total side note/conspiracy theory here but Was Snarlen Arlen a Ped State fan or have connections? Close ones?
Might explain his (when he was one) and other Repub voting.
Powerful people indeed...
If so, I will be sad but not devastated.
I've always liked the guy but I never worshiped him.
Actually, until a few days ago I kind of liked Sandusky.
There are some NFL Hall of Famers who owe their careers to Sandusky....his name was widely respected amongst people who follow college football, that's one of the things that makes this whole case so shocking.
That's a great question.
By his own admission yesterday ("With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."), Paterno seems to know that he failed morally. As the most powerful, respected, and influential man at Penn State, Paterno was in the singular position of putting an IMMEDIATE end to the predations of a known serial homosexual child-rapist. Yet in the end, he did nothing. He not only betrayed the trust of everyone in the university and the community, but more importantly, he betrayed the trust of every parent, and worse still, he abandoned the most innocent among us -- our children -- to a deviant predator by turning a blind eye to the abuse that HE KNEW was going on.
Perfidy just doesn't get any worse than this.
So can Paterno make amends? Perhaps. He has an opportunity here that few of us will ever have, if only because of his rarified position of influence and power. I pray he's able to see that.
As of yesterday, though, I'm still not convinced that Paterno fully understands the enormity of his betrayal. At a morning press conference, he concluded by saying that from now on, he will be doing everything in his power to help... (are you ready?) ... the UNIVERSITY.
Not the child rape victims. And not their families. But the UNIVERSITY.
You tell me. I'm at a loss for words. Is redemption possible for this man?
This thread is about those who enabled him and allowed him to continue his crimes, one of whom was Paterno.
Leftists have a epistemological problem in understanding differences.
Just getting back to the thread now - I don't think it's that he “can't grasp”, it's that leftist/fag pedophile supporters like to use weasel words, word jugglery, and debate fine minutiae and legalism to tacitly support the evil they are supporting; while trying to trick us rubes that they are interested in Truth and Justice.
Thanks for the calm and collected post amongst the out-for-blood crowd. Sandusky probably did horrific crap, but this whole thing hasnt been brought to trial. Its like a national lynch mob going here.
Your tacit support of homosexual rape of little boys and the crimes committed to cover it up is more than disgusting. There is no “probably” about Sandusky or the fact that many, many people knew what was - not “probably was” - for SURE was going on.
Apparently, a lot of people forget biblical teachings:
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone...
Your fake piety makes me want to vomit. I’m no saint and had admitted my previous sinful life on FR - but I have NEVER sexually abused a child and NEVER covered up such crimes! How can you possibly accuse people on FR of such crimes - because that is exactly what you are doing!!
Norm, get a load of this guy and JennysCool. They’re outraged that people are piling on those who may actualy be innocent. or something.
You obviously haven’t read the grand jury report. I can’t even respond to you because you don’t even understand the timeline.
