Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.
The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.
But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.
One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower...

He didnt give Paterno a detailed account. At least, thats not factual info yet.If you're Paterno and if Paterno is half the man he's been presented to be, don't you ask for a very detailed account? Don't you walk McQueary to the Police? Don't you call Sandusky and inform him he's no longer welcome in your locker room?
The reality is that if JoePa didn't want Sandusky allowed within the state lines of Pennsylvania again, he probably could have made it happen.
My suspicion is that his quest for legacy in wins and for control of the football program and going out on his own terms trumped his moral and ethical compass. Any weakness coming to public light, even with him taking the appropriate measures, would have probably brought about his retirement back in 1998 - when this all should have happened.

He can't grasp the fact that the child rapist is a different issue, that all agree he needs to be dealt with as severely as possible.
This thread is about those who enabled him and allowed him to continue his crimes, one of whom was Paterno.
Leftists have a epistemological problem in understanding differences.

How many boys have gone missing in this area?
In the early 70s a Nebraska man was convicted molesting two boys.
The prison officials turned him loose with the prisoners. He lasted 4 days. They found screwdrivers embedded in his eyes.

That ‘legacy’ is the reason people have lost their minds and will support him to the death.
Personally Im on the side of the raped kids and would support THEM to the death Paterno and his fan club can GTH. As I’m not a football fan I have no team loyalty, do to speak.
Side note...I like the 909 better with a touch of distortion but the 808 rocks the deep end nicely ;)

Sandusky and those two who lied are in the legal system, getting 'due process'.
What is happening to those who covered the crimes up is that they are being fired by the Univ.
You really have a hard time with facts don't you!

Because the condemnation of the fiend who did the raping goes without saying!
This thread is about those who let it continue.
Because we deal with one, doesn't mean we are condoning the other.

Paterno is the power on that Univ. and he did nothing to find out who the child was, and any followup.
Sandusky still had access to Penn State and was on campus just last week.

Paterno isn't the 'scrapgoat' he was the senior man responsible!
Clearly, you have no concept of responsibilty.
Go to bed and leave the sane people alone.

Paterno called Tim Curley, Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy. Clear enough?

What's amazing is that they have a different standard for Paterno than Paterno had for his players. Did Paterno ever once in a practice tell his players "I'd like for you to adequately meet your responsibilities with respect to your assignments?" I doubt it. I imagine you heard a lot of "Give 110%." "Leave it all on the field." "Give it everything you've got."
It is sad that this is how he will be remembered. But it may be more sad that this might be how he should be remembered.
The 909 never got the respect it deserved, from snare to high hat to the kick. Its kick is much more serviceable for a wide variety of uses than the 808. The snare has more punch and the high hat is a dance floor delight. But the ubiquitous 808 gets all the glory. Such is life.

The rapist is under indictment, the story isn’t about him.

So defending pedophilia is a conservative cause now?
Clearly, you have been brainwashed by Penn State.

Paterno knew that something sexual was involved, and said so in the Grand Jury, so open your eyes.
You sound like a Bill Clinton apologist!

Paterno is being fired for not being responsible enough to protect children.
Nothing 'leftist' about it.
He deserves far more punishment then he is getting.

Yes, and that was ALL Petrano did which was not enough.
He did enough to protect himself legally, but not morally, I hope that you can grasp that distinction.

Oh cut it out! Paterno is the power on that campus and did nothing to address the issue.
