The Obama administration has given the green light for a new fee of 15 cents on all Christmas trees.
The new tax will be used to raise funds for an advertising campaign promoting the benefits of live trees, as opposed to artificial ones. The tax is expected to raise approximately $2 million, according to McClatchy News.
A 12-member board will be charged with directing the funds toward advertising and research ventures.
The industry was divided on the issue. Nineteen states grower organizations lit up at the prospect of the tax, while Christmas tree growers in Texas and Vermont generally opposed it, according to the McClatchy and the Chicago Tribune.

IIRC the Left were responsible with their tree hugging campaigns of the sixties, and seventies for the turn towards purchasing artificial, what they called “Xmas Trees”, and now we are supposed to believe they want to help, to protect, to promote Christmas Tree farmers with a $.15 “fee”!?
As you, I call BS.
These are the same Leftists that create “reasons” that it’s OK to kill the unborn. They can create, and sell “reasons” for anything. It’s called BS, and it’s what the Leftists do as the truth would prevent them any progress.
It’s a tax on Christians IMO. It’s the Camel’s nose under the tent so-to-speak of the Jizya. The tax on non Muslim’s as I see it. Who buys Christmas trees? Primarily Christian Infidel’s buy Christmas trees.
If this was a serious effort to promote live, or fresh cut Christmas Trees as promoted it would require one “H” of a lot more money than $.15 a tree. It’s none of Government’s business anyway.
Another Obama attack on Christianity.
How about a tax on muslim “honor killings”?
It would bring in more money.
If the Muslime bastard gets away with this, will a big tax on Bibles be next?
Under sharia, the dhimmis must pay thier jizya.
I mean...that's nothing, why shouldn't they pay it.
It's for the poor children.
****A tax to advertise the benefits of live trees over fake ones.****
And years ago everyone was urged to buy an artificial tree and not to cut down real ones.
Maybe I will just have to sneak into the National Forest like we used to do 60 years ago and cut one!
I guess I'll go into the woods and ILLEGALLY chop down a tree.
We need to start a TREE PARTY movement to protest this new tax!
