I generally agree with your post except that I think Joe lost his principles and he knows it and that will be what will kill him.

That's kind of the whole point I was trying to make. The allowance of those principles to be compromised and doing nothing to salvage them killing him, I mean.

Just think...Penn State's 11-1 2005 season was all built upon the altar of staving off scandal...same is true of its almost 80 wins since this all broke in early 2002.

Now you're getting hysterical again. Those games were won by talented, hard-working football players aged 18 - 22 who took the field knowing absolutely nothing about Sandusky. Don't try to bring those kids down, too. Sheesh.

This entire situation is more proof, yet again, of the adage that:

“All that is required for Evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing.”

You missed his point. How many of those good kids would have come to PSU if they had known that Joe was allowing Sandusky to rape little boys in the PSU football shower room?

Knew nothing? Even the janitors knew. The GJ report said they were too afraid to report Sandusky.

What amazes me is that in this entire, sordid affair, there is not the least bit of honor to be found among the adults. I suppose there’s the possibility that the DA, Gricar, may have been unable to live with the shame and offed himself, but if it had not been for the courage of the first victim to come forward, Sandusky would most likely still be buggering somebody’s child.

Indeed...as you noted, this will hurt both prospective students and upcoming graduates. In order to begin to get this dreadful and disgusting fog lifted from the university, they must not let Joe orchestrate anything anymore (as he tried to do in that pathetic press release) and remove him before the Nebraska game.

We all need to see a lot of moving trucks and cartons leaving that campus ASAP. The more they wait, the worse it will be for them.

Good luck my friend...while we can't expect a good outcome, what we can hope for is that responsible people come in and root out whatever needs to be rooted out quickly and completely.

the REAL point of this story is how many people tried to cover it up.

From the Program itself, to the University Police and leadership, to the local police and DA, and on up from there.

FOR WELL OVER A DECADE..

It was swept under the rug, over and over again. Everybody was happy riding on the money train, and NO ONE wanted to mess that up.

Rewind to 1998...here's an excerpt from what you just posted:

Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6’s mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, “I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won’t get it from you. I wish I were dead.”

PSU police detectives Ralston and Schreffler never prosecute Sandusky. I'm not sure if Schreffler is still employed there; but as of earlier this year, Ralston was...And note how Ralston -- in 1998 and in the Jan. 2011 case below -- is able to come to these "snap"-like decisions that nothing "foul" has occurred. He seems to be like a ref who never throws a flag!

A Landisville man enrolled at Penn State University was found dead inside his State College apartment Sunday. Brandon Lehr, 22, was discovered by his roommate in their Beaver Avenue apartment when his roommate returned from Christmas break.Penn State's spring semester began Monday. State College police Detective Ralph Ralston said there was no sign of foul play, "nor do we suspect there was any foul play."

Oh, sure. 22 yo turn up dead all the time @ Penn State. We don't suspect foul play 'round here whatsoever...now move along...get on with your life...

but if it had not been for the courage of the first victim to come forward

He didn't exactly come forward. The mother made a public statement yesterday.

She was concerned about his behavior and had 'discussions' with Sandusky basically telling him that she was the mother and Sandusky should stop trying to 'help' with the boy's problems.

Then she found out the school was allowing Sandusky to take the boy out of class so she went to the school and met with officials and her boy to find out what was happening.

The boy broke down and told what was happening.

School officials urged her to carefully consider the consequences this might have if she reported it!

She then took her son, left the school and went straight to child services to report it.

If she had followed the school officials urging not to report, Sandusky may still be raping boys.

You're missing the point. I don't begrudge these players' hard work. You've already agreed in a couple of posts that this will be devastating to the Penn State recruitment program.

All I'm saying is had this scandal broke in '02 or '03 -- vs. '11 -- that it's likely a few those players who contributed to the '05 season would "hard-working" in showing their talents for a team other than the Lyin's.

I would not be surprised if we find out that there is a sex ring operating out of the college.

Or especially the Second Mile.

Be sure & add those specific detectives’ names mentioned in post 309 to your “who knew” list...I know you have them down generically...but add their names, too...the corruption questions are seeming to run deeper here in light of post 309

PSU police detectives Ralston and Schreffler never prosecute Sandusky.

Police detectives don't prosecute. They referred it to the Centre County DA who declined to prosecute.

There are no innocent bystanders in this.

And seeing some try to rationalize the ignoring of child sexual abuse is rather disgusting, especially coming from some Freepers.

I’d expect that from the largely queer Daily Kos’rs, but never from freepers.

I see what you mean. That’s a good point. It is ironic that had the Sandusky situation been addressed immediately and throughly, there would have been significant pain but not nearly what the coverup has led to today. Penn State might well be largely recovered by now.

As it is, this scandal will be a yoke around Penn State’s neck for decades to come.

I agree with earlier posters who surmise that Spanier and the gay takeover of the campus over the past 15 years, combined with the attendant political correctness and liberal immorality that goes with it, contributed mightily to the current scandal. When you lay down with dogs you wake up with fleas.

Done. Also the State Welfare Department Jerry Lauro.

People we know that knew Sandusky raped little boys.

President Spanier
AD Curley
VP Schultz
PSU Attorney Courtney
Second Mile Attorney Courtney
University Police (Detective Ronald Shreffler)
State College Police (Detective Ralph Ralston)
Department of Welfare (Investigator Jerry Lauro)
Child Services
County DA Gricar
County Prosecutors
Coach McQueary
Various elementary and high school officials
Second Mile officials
Joe Paterno’s staff including down to the janitors

Possibly but my guess is that Sandusky had the goods on some one high up and Spanier would have been gone.

Folks, get ready for huge PR stunt(s). Wouldn’t be surprised parading of “distinguished” alumni on the Soviet States Networks. They all have big networks $ in this. (Remember how they blocked out “God” in the pledge at the U.S. Open)

Hear they already have former players to appear lined up for Saturday’s game. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see them bring out the D.C. Puppet Spammer on this also.

The scandal would have largely been the same for the victims involved, but they would have rec'd help sooner. And the number would be fewer -- at least the still to crop up number.

Since 2002-2003 years were the down years for Paterno, it might have been used as the reason to dump him. But had it come out then, no cover-up scandal...other than them figuring out what went on in '98 as to how it wasn't prosecuted.

Would a non-Paterno head coach have had a 11-1 season in '05 with a few less good recruits? Who knows?

But you're right: "...this scandal will be a yoke around Penn State’s neck for decades to come."
