Bill Clinton: Let presidents serve three terms
By: Tim Mak November 8, 2011 08:48 AM EST
Three times could be a charm - but not for him.
Former president Bill Clinton said Tuesday that presidents should be able to run for a third term so long as they take off some time after their second term.
Ive always though that should be the rule, he said on MSNBCs Morning Joe. I think as a practical matter, you couldnt apply this to anyone who has already served, but going forward I personally believe that should be the rule.
Clinton made the remark in the context of a question posed by Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough, who said that many wished that Clinton could run again.
Shouldnt a president be able to take two terms, take time off and run again? Shouldnt Americans have that choice? asked Scarborough. He cited former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who led his country during World War II and then again in the 1950s, as an example.
The two-term limit for the presidency is mandated by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which was ratified after Franklin D. Roosevelt won four consecutive terms in the 1930s and 1940s.
Earlier in the morning, Clinton said that he does not spend time thinking about whether the country would be better off under the leadership of his wife, Hillary Clinton.

STDs?
Who is the most egregious horsesarse narrcisist: Clinton or Obama?
I think one term is all anyone should get. I’m tired of them campaigning on the taxpayer dime. I also have to go along with Ben Franklin that we shouldn’t pay our politicians for serving the country. It’s too bad that we’re locked into the system we have. Political office should be run like a jury system.
And, is that a bad thing? 2 for 1; 2 for 1 out of the race.
Bill Clinton reminds me of nothing more than a case of Genital Herpes. Horrendously painful, unspeakably disgusting, then it goes away and just when you think you’re rid of it, it comes back, and worse than ever.
Well fortunately for all of us Bill the Constitution won’t allow 3 terms. We fought a war in 1776 to get away from Kings.
Always? Always? Did XXX-42 say that in 1988 to allow Reagan to run for a third term?
One or two in the whitehouse, and the other in Leavenworth?
Forget that, just another Obama Executive Order!
We have just experienced three years of Obama post-innagural campaigning.
Another prime example of how the Republicans managed to shoot themselves in the foot.
"Term Limits" is a horrible idea. Let's not allow our hatred for dems to carry this any further.
I guess he’s not pulling enough babes with his current gig.
FDR was THE REASON for the 22nd Amendment! Not only is the 22nd a roadblock to tyranny, we need a complementary amendment that covers all Federal Officeholders. It is a disgrace that we have a US Senate whose 21 longest “serving” (read lining their pockets) have a combined “service” of about 520 years!
