You can register as anything you like and it has no effect on how you vote.
It wouldn’t surprise me if half the democrats in chicago have registered as republicans - so they can vote in the republican primary.

I have no doubt there are some here who don’t know this. Maybe they think that some kind of poll police go in the booth to make sure you vote as you are registered.
