At a time of escalating tensions with the Iranian regime over its suspected nuclear ambitions and support for terrorism, Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul is suggesting that Washington adopt a new approach dont impose sanctions, treat them differently, and offer friendship. Re-treading ground he covered during earlier primary campaign debates, the Texas lawmaker said on Fox News Sunday that the United States had talked to the Soviet Union and China, both nuclear-armed, during the Cold War.
Asked what the U.S. should do to persuade Iran not to pursue a nuclear weapons capability, Paul replied, Well, maybe offering friendship to them. I mean, didnt we talk to the Soviets? Didnt we talk to the Chinese? They had thousands of these weapons.
He challenged the notion that Iran poses a security threat.
The Iranians cant even make enough gasoline for themselves, he said. For them to be a threat to us or to anybody in the region, I think its just blown out of proportion.

obama tried that. he’s in the same place (or worse) that GWB was in.
people don’t seem to understand that radical islamic regimes hate us because of who we are, not what we do.
why not talk to obama and see if he’ll just step down............while you’re at it....
I suppose he thinks that stance will put him up for a Nobel Peace Prize. It has been known to happen.
Sigh. Is there no end to his self-destruction?
Being Friendly to Muslims is a sign of weakness. They thrive on it.
Ron Paul is a mental case.
Certifiable.
In related news, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Ron Paul of welcome sexual advances.
He’s schizophrenic.
In the ‘08 debates he said he would only follow the constitution and in the next
breath called the Iraq war illegal citing the World Court in The Hague.
Does Ron Paul hate Jews? If he does, then he would side with Nazis.
This ought to convince even the most rabid Ron Paul fans that the guy is a kook. I know he has some great points on Free Markets but when it comes to national security he’s as nutty as a fruit cake. And National Security it the most important thing that a president has responsibility for.
Sweet lord
He’s like the green grocer down the street who you chat with when you stop by his store. He starts blathering on about how simple everything should be; even though his logic is faulty and he gets some of the facts wrong, but you humor him, even though you start glancing at your watch and looking toward the door. Ron Paul is a pompous half-wit, but everyone is too polite to say it to his face.
“This ought to convince even the most rabid Ron Paul fans that the guy is a kook.”
Don’t count on it. I doubt they’d support anyone else even if Wrong Paul gave his unequivocal seal of approval to another candidate.
