Old feud rears its head at Trinity (Ward Churchill Strikes in San Antonio)

Ward Churchill, a controversial activist for academic freedom, at a speech at Trinity University on Tuesday accused the university's president, Dennis Ahlburg, of a smear campaign against him some years ago in Colorado.

He also invoked the Hitler salute of “Sieg Heil” to Ahlburg's wife, Penelope Harley, as she stormed out of the auditorium after defending her husband in front of the audience of students and faculty.

“This personal vindictiveness in an institution that has welcomed you ... I find very, very hard to listen to. And quite frankly, pretty darn insulting,” said Harley, before leaving for her son's soccer match.

Ahlburg was in New York, but was reached by phone later.

“He comes in and insults me in my absence... and screams ‘Sieg Heil' at my wife?” Ahlburg said. “This is a champion for free speech that America does not need. The only speech he wants to hear is his own voice.”

David Spener, a professor of sociology and anthropology, invited Churchill to speak as part of a program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Known for his inflammatory rhetoric, Churchill wrote that the attacks were justified by U.S. sanctions in the Middle East, and called the World Trade Center workers “little Eichmanns” who “formed a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire.”

OK, our son goes to this school, the main problem we have is the "president", who's whining about the treatment he (and his wife) got from this scum, said inviting (read PAYING) Churchill was a bad idea, but in the name of free speech invited him anyway. Hey I got an idea: $40gs plus to send a kid to your school, you're the president, BE THE G^%$DA*& PRESIDENT! Say "No, Ward Churchill is not even welcome on campus, much less are we gonna pay him to agitate our students who's parents are paying out the a$% to send them here". I know. Good luck with all that. They are all fortresses of the left masquerading as universities. Then the phone will ring, they'll ask if they can count on us to give a little extra...

I still don’t understand why people donate to colleges these days.

Really. The exorbitant “tuition” should cover everything and more. When I went to school it was $750 a semester.

My brother went to Trinity in the 80s, and it appears to have turned a normal, reasonably intelligient human being into a reflexive liberal....the usual stuff: global warming, antiChristian, Obama voter, OWS, evil Koch brothers, etc. I am sure that it is much more rabidly left now than it was then.

Not worth $40k. Not worth a dime.

Huh. I didn’t know that old queen was still prancing around. Why is that so many transsexuals think they have right to behave badly?

I would invite a skunk before I would invite Ward Churchill to any gathering other than OWS.

There are hundreds/thousands of lib academicians who desperately want to make a name for themselves. Their teachings and academic output are practically worthless. But even though they have sinecures in our country’s colleges, they still want to be famous. Although they only deserve obscurity, they will do or say anything to get attention. Churchill is one of the worst, but there are plenty more where he came from.

It is considered common courtesy to scrape any Ward Churchill off your boots before entering public places or private residences!

“I would invite a skunk before I would invite Ward Churchill...”

That isn’t very nice. Skunks are noble creatures who emit a foul odor. That is just the way they are.

ward churchill is an ignoble creature who emits foul ideas. He chose to be that way.
