So what manner of a man is this Jerry Sandusky?
On Nov. 13, 1999, he received a standing ovation from a crowd of 96,480. It was the occasion of his official retirement as dean of Linebacker U's impenetrable defense. For a long, long time, he was thought to be the successor to Joe Paterno. When he finally decided to leave the fold, after 32 years of unswerving loyalty and uncommon patience, --snip-- It has been over 10 years since Sandusky left Penn State to devote all of his time to the Second Mile, a charitable organization he and his wife started in 1977 as a sanctuary, a safe house, for children at risk.
It is a noble undertaking, and it has grown and grown, and it is estimated that it reaches 100,000 kids a year. The name comes from the Sermon on the Mount - "And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile."

BS! I bet it was common knowledge.
Paterno was brought up in a time when segregation was the norm. He certainly managed to overcome that. You would think that he would have overcome any concerns with talking about child-rapists in his 'family'.
Answer the rest of my questions? Don’t let your hatred for Joe Paterno continue to make you look stupid.
Making your case personal against those that bring out the facts makes you look stupid.
JP made a deal to testify against the others ...
You say Paterno KNEW it was being covered up. Tell me how you know what people are thinking.
Joe knew of the 'incident' in the showers. He knew that there was no police investigation. He knew that Sandusky was free to roam and rape.
LOL! You “bet”, but know nothing.
Al Golden, now the first year football coach at Miami ( and BTW, when he was hired, neither the Miami AD, or the University president, Diana Shalala, ever told him about the NCAA probe of the problems with boosters) was an all America at PSU, and as early as his senior year, people were already talking about him as one day replacing JoePa. The guy's a natural.
He graduated in 1991. Remember Sandusky was his position coach for all 4 years, so he obviously got to know the guy well..the asst coaches are the ones who have close contact with the players. I'm NOT suggesting anything happened..Sandusky likes younger boys, but you might get a vibe off the guy.
He plays one year in the NFL...then starts his coaching career, first at a HS, then at UVa, Boston College, then ONLY ONE season, 2000, as linebacker coach...replacing Sandusky, who retired in 1999. The he left to go back to UVa.
Hard to believe that Joe Pa didn't want Golden around...maybe Golden didn't want to be around PSU?
From Joe's statement to the press:
It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the grand jury report, Paterno said in the statement. Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky."
JP said he knew of the inappropriate sexual behavior by Sandusky and the ten year old in his locker room and he knew that no one at PSU would hold Sandusky accountable and that Sandusky remained free to roam the locker room and rape ten year olds.
Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Enquirer thinks that Paterno has to go.
Paterno escaped indictment because he told athletic director Tim Curley about an alleged 2002 incident in which a graduate student reported discovering Sandusky performing sex acts on a boy who was about 10 years old in the shower area of a football locker room. Paterno told Curley, who failed to report it to the proper authorities, according to the attorney general. Then Paterno apparently did nothing.
That is where we start to see the difference between the fictional Joe Paterno, whose reputation and that of the university has been built on rock-solid morals, and what might be the real Joe Paterno.
The fictional Joe Paterno would have said, Hey, this is awful, but we have to clean it up. We have to do the right thing. Its going to look bad for us, but you cant let something like this go. We have to get Jerry some help, and we have to make sure he doesnt hurt any kids.
The real Paterno, as nearly as can be determined from the indictments, passed the information to Curley and then washed his hands. He apparently didnt follow up when there was no further investigation. He apparently didnt ask questions when Sandusky continued to enjoy his emeritus status on campus, complete with an office and access to the same building in which the alleged assault took place.
I would guess that having to see Sandusky still in the locker room was too much for him?
And thus prevented countless rapes of young boys.
I don't understand it but they exist.
From the PA Attorney General:
"The quick action by high school staff members in Clinton County in response to reports of a possible sexual assault by Sandusky is in marked contrast to the reaction of top officials at Penn State University, who had actually received a first-hand report of a sexual attack by Sandusky seven years earlier."
It would have destroyed JoPa’s legacy.
Penn State’s brand is very profitable. They wanted to protect it.
And they did, for a while.
Sick.
I would hope that the Board of Directors is appointing an independent body to investigate all involved including President Spanier. Spanier has already stated that he believes Curley and Shultz to be innocent and ‘operate at the highest levels of honesty’. Spanier is up to his neck in the cover-ups.
(Like Spanier will really do an investigation...)
The allegations about a former coach are troubling, and it is appropriate that they be investigated thoroughly. Protecting children requires the utmost vigilance.
With regard to the other presentments, I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support. I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee.
Tim Curley and Gary Schultz operate at the highest levels of honesty, integrity and compassion. I am confident the record will show that these charges are groundless and that they conducted themselves professionally and appropriately.
Graham Spanier
What really bothers me about this story. No one ever looked into the well being of that boy. Not once.
They all knew that Sandusky would take good care of him.
Starting a charity house for abused kids is his perfect cover and endless supply of victims.
1. He did not aquit himself well in this matter..yes, he reported it, but failed to ever inquire what happened..it doesn't pass the smell test.
2. The president will be gone..for his idiotic statements supporting the two guys who just quit. And they'll be a new AD..and even if this whole mess hadn't happened, the AD had just retired, there is no way a new AD comes aboard with hsi first decision having to be what to do about Paterno. No smart guy would ever be put in that position. So, JoePa will be TOLD, firmly, he's got to go..and he will
Speaking of Golden..well...there's lots of talk in Florida that he leaves Miami after this season. He was lied to..told nothing, and if Miami escapes the death penalty ( which is still 50/50) the sanction will be so severe...loss of scholarships..no post season bowl, that he won't be abloe to recruit for years. So he can get out of his contract, claiming that he was lied to, which he was, and just maybe, he comes back to PSU at the savior...assuming of course, that there's nothing that even remotely suggests that he had any idea about Sandusky..
