So what manner of a man is this Jerry Sandusky?
On Nov. 13, 1999, he received a standing ovation from a crowd of 96,480. It was the occasion of his official retirement as dean of Linebacker U's impenetrable defense. For a long, long time, he was thought to be the successor to Joe Paterno. When he finally decided to leave the fold, after 32 years of unswerving loyalty and uncommon patience, --snip-- It has been over 10 years since Sandusky left Penn State to devote all of his time to the Second Mile, a charitable organization he and his wife started in 1977 as a sanctuary, a safe house, for children at risk.
It is a noble undertaking, and it has grown and grown, and it is estimated that it reaches 100,000 kids a year. The name comes from the Sermon on the Mount - "And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile."

I think Camp was talking about the guy who walked into the shower area where Sandusky was raping a 10 year old kid. He is the guy who called his dad,and eventually notificed Paterno.
You know what, I’m too angry about this as I’m reading more about it.
I think JoePa should have called the cops is all.
The whole thing is a mess.
Please disregard anything I said that was offensive.
I’m signing off tonight.
ok. My husband is not a head football coach or anything, but I tell you that if someone told him they had seen bad stuff happening between a former ass. coach and a child in a locker room, then my husband would personally remove that man’s ability to breathe. In self defense, of course. It is a natural reaction of a MAN.
Joe Paterno knew of Sandusky's tendencies YEARS before the 2002 event and years after the 2002 event but kept silent in the coverup.
I am a Penn State grad (’75) and always liked Joe. But I wouldn’t say he’s my hero. That would be my Dad. However, I maintain that pointing fingers at (at the time, in 2002) a 75-year-old football coach for failing to “do more” is weak. In any event, I am at least as angry about this disgusting mess as you are. But as I posted to someone else:
Paterno knew of only the one allegation, and he says the assistant coach who reported seeing the inappropriate behavior did not get into any specifics. Paterno wasn’t entirely sure about what he was dealing with, but he knew it couldn’t be good. He did the right thing and immediately reported it to the people who were supposed to follow through.
We really don’t know for sure what Paterno may or may not have done in the interim. For all we know, Joe did indeed continue to inquire about the matter. Beyond that, there just wasn’t much he could do. One thing is for sure - - you don’t point fingers and publicly accuse somebody of being a homosexual pedophile predator without a whole lot of proof.
Please keep in mind that we are looking at this situation now from the perspective of a lot more information, and a pile of additional accusations beyond that single hearsay report Paterno got back in 2002.
And so, that’s all from me on this mess. We shall see how it all shakes out.
FRegards,
LH
I’m with you. There is something about this that is making me so angry (more so than other crimes I read about) ... I keep asking myself: does anyone have courage anymore? To do the right thing. Protect the innocent, even if it means your hide might be on the line. I’d like to think that I’d risk losing my job to make sure a predator was locked up forever. These are child rapes we’re talking about - not a bully who stole a kid’s lunch money.
My gut tells me a lot of people may not have had intimate knowledge of Jerry’s habits, but they had inklings and clues. They did not dig deeper for fear of what they might discover. (Expletive) cowards.
In an effort to maintain the credibility of PS, some folks put on their blinders, and pretended it never happened. Now the time has come to pay for sins of the past. It’s called Karma. No excuses offered now will be sufficient to relieve PS of this crime.
I see your point, but like it or not, JoePa will be associated with this, and that is going to affect recruiting. Because of the sheer ugliness of this situation, maybe unfairly, Joe has to go, the sooner the better, for PSU to put this behind them, and move the program forward.
The coverup stands out loud and clear.
Penn State’s President Graham Spanier issued a statement of support for the two administrators accused of perjury and failure to report the sexual abuse of a child.
He said he believes in their “innocence.”
My a**.
exactly.
As more and more people take the time to read the timeline....he will be axed for that (leaving the kid behind)
The report gives the impression of alot of adults who were more concerned with their own welfare - their career, than the immediate welfare of innocent kids.
it appears the real reason Sandusky was “encouraged” to retire, was because the mother of a young boy figured out her son had taken a shower with him.
Sandusky returned the kid home with his hair wet. Which caused her to wonder how it got wet - and oh! - you did what?
Shortly thereafter he “retired” and went to work at his “charity”
have you read the presentment?
Maybe it’s because that same night, they kept spotting Sandusky’s car driving slowly by their building until 3 a.m.
Creepy.
I happen to agree with you completely. Sandusky is going away for a long, long time but this disgusting blemish will not be scrubbed off the Nittany Lion for years. It’s time for the page to be turned. The only monkey wrench in that plan is that Paterno (and Penn State) will not want it to look like Joe was forced out or “resigned in disgrace”.
My guess is that Joe will get one or two more years, tops, with the hope that Sandusky will be tried and sent away in the meantime. Penn State wants to have a nice send-off party for Paterno, complete with a statue, and accolades, and speeches, and the sooner the Sandusky matter is settled, the better.
Spanier has been a homo hugger for decades. He is a disgrace, and I am a little surprised he hasn’t been indicted yet.
Sheesh... “Global warming” fraudster Michael Mann and now homosexual pedophile predator Jerry Sandusky... Penn State has taken a real beating in the integrity and pride departments over the past few years. And right under Spanier’s nose. Somebody better shake things up at that place, and quick.
I agree. And they did this as the church pedophilia scandal unfolded in the background. They knew it was happening in front of them!
The liberalism of the university has been made very clear to me in recent years.
The Pennsylvania legislature has actually held hearings about political bias on university campuses and then claimed it didn’t exist.
From the article “And no matter how this ends, either justice will be served, as it should be, or an innocent man will be exonerated, which is also as it should be. But no matter what is proven, or mis-proven, this will linger long into the night, like an uncomfortable silence, no one knowing quite what to say, but wanting not to believe.”
I know this writer is confused and upset, but that is still no excuse for that paragraph.
PSU will win the Big10 title, get a good bowl game, win, and probably end up ranked from #5-#7..depending on how things break. A great season. But this scandal is all anyone will talk about...it will totally ruin it for the university and the team...it will taint everything...that's all anyone will talk about.
The two clowns resigned last night. The president will also be forced out for his stupid statement supporting them. He's an idiot, not fit to run a great university.
Paterno will be told after the season, quietly, to retire. He will.
Sandusky will commit suicide.
