We already have one. Its called the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a committee of experts appointed by the Department of Health & Human Services. This group recently de-clared that men should not be routinely screened for prostate cancer. The most common test is the PSA, which is part of a blood test. The panel also said no to rectal exams and ultrasounds, claiming that testing does no good, that it doesnt save lives.
Two years ago this task force said wom-en under the age of 50 shouldnt get annual mammogramsa finding so preposterous even the Department of Health & Human Services ran away from it.
This latest dictate is meeting the same fate. And rightly so. After skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer found in men. Last year it killed 32,000 people in the U.S. The panels tortured reasoning is that oftentimes traces of cancer in the prostate dont lead to a full-blown attack that can kill the patient. True enough, as far as that goes. But the panel ignored the inconvenient fact that physicians have a measurement called the Gleason score to determine how dangerous the disease is. If that score is low doctors will take a watchful attitude; if it gets high theyll recommend action.

The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
BUT all the DC pundits told us Palin was crazy! There was NO SUCH thing as “Death Panels”!
/s
We’ve got commie fags and pedophiles on “panels” like this and yet when Barry needs more money, it’s the cops, fireman and teachers who ALWAYS take the hit. What’s up with that? For once I’d love to hear the commie ‘RATS whining that they’ll have to lay off people at the HHS or EPA if the Republicans don’t pass a tax increase. JUST ONCE!
My grandfather was diagnosed with BPH thanks to a digital rectal exam, and prostate issues have plagued the men in my family for centuries. To deny all of the standard tests means that this government is declaring war against my family and me, as far as I’m concerned.
As a survivor of prostate cancer, I can in a very qualified way, say that these Marxist nutcases are simply out to kill men beginning in their thirties — yes, thirties and beyond. Good way to reduce the costs of the Obamacare Marxist takeover program.
If it had not been for the excellent PSA test, someone else would be writing this post. Their premise is TOTALLY without merit or truth (in typical DemoRAT fashion). These lying Marxists are the bane of our great medical industry and the people of this country.
Let us hope the people of this country vote the Repub candidate into the Oval Office that will first off set up the dilution and subsequent destruction of the Obamacare sham and the included “death panels”.
How sick. Totally sick.
From the experience of some family members with BPH, they will wait until the male patient has increasingly frequent urination, then prescribe a pill. The problem, as I see it, is how to differentiate the benign condition from early cancer.
Is this just a case of not paying for it? The PSA test that I last saw on my husband’s lab reports was inexpensive, the time taken for the digital exam was short and as far as ultrasounds go, wouldn’t they only be used if something was enlarged?
Would you be able to have the tests routinely if you paid for them?
My husband was telling me that Dr. Oz thinks doctors should decide a very ill patient’s treatment/outcome (paraphrasing), rather than the family. I USED to think Dr. Oz was fairly OK, but this is disgusting.
There are “experts” within the Obamacare monstrosity as well as in the British NHS and other similar socialized medicine bureaucracies who are determined to turn Medicare upside down. They would provide care and preventive medicine for the productive members of society and cut it off for the elderly. The idea has been around for a long time as an offshoot of eugenics. It would greatly reduce medical costs and ease the redistribution of income through very high estate taxes.
Under our present system, I get yearly DREs and have my urologist on alert for family history. I’m young, so I’ll likely not see anything yet for another 10 years.
If Obamacare comes to fruition, my urologist likely won’t treat me for BPH considering this “panel” will knock it down to the same level as the common cold.
I’m on my knees every night praying to the Lord that SCOTUS shoots down Obamacare in total. If they do not, I fear my life won’t last much longer.
Obama and the democrats are evil.
These "experts" would move us back, not forwards, in our medical care.
Thanks Driftwood1.
Not annually doing the PSA test will allow a lot of cancers to grow to dangerous levels.
My PSA was normal for several years but was up a bit on last years test. It was again higher on a 4 month repeat so a biopsy was done. Most of the biopsy bits had cancer so I had the prostate removed with surgery, not fun. If more than a year had passed, the cancer could have broken out of the gland and been a bigger problem to treat.

Sebelius the abortion lover as the head of DHHS naturally wants to accelerate death, just like her appointer. I read the whole article and did not grasp how binding these recommendations are; if people are willing to pay can doctors still perform these tests? Of course, if 0hbummerCare becomes the law (HUGE SHUDDER) then I assume we will have no choice. But we cannot allow that to happen.
After squandering and looting the Social Security surplus put away by the Baby Boomer generation, it stands to reason that cutting short the Boomer's life expectancy will enable the political ruling class to get away with their heist.
And just think....
this is just the beginning.
