CHICAGO (Reuters) - Ron Paul was declared the winner on Saturday of a weeklong Republican presidential straw poll in Democratic President Barack Obama's home state of Illinois.

Texas Congressman Paul won 52 percent of the combined 3,649 online and in-person votes cast between October 29 and Saturday evening. He won 66.5 percent of the votes cast over the Internet and 8 percent of those cast in person.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney earned 7 percent of the online votes cast and 35 percent of the in-person votes, winning the most in-person votes cast at 22 locations, the party said.

Businessman Herman Cain won 15 percent of the online vote and 29 percent of the in-person vote.

Ron Paul isn’t beating anyone. He’s an annoyance.

As I recall, every poll ever conducted prior to the actual election has Paul in the top of the heap in some way or another. When election day comes around, he’s vapor.

Are there any Ron Paul supporters on FR? I never see anything from them. Have they been banned?

"Paul won 52 percent of the combined 3,649 online and in-person votes"

Those creepy Paul-bot drones sure know how to spam a poll. I'll also bet he got 99% of the Islam vote too.

They’re quietly sulking because the La Raza Rick supporters have stolen their moonbat mojo.

Proof that Blue staters are idiots.

The owner of this forum lives in a blue state. So you might want to clarify your comment.

Actually, Ron Paul started doing well in straw polls this election cycle. In 2008, he didn’t do so well in straw polls.
Online polls, yes, but not straw polls.

Excellent point! As someone who lives (and will probably die) in a blue state, I appreciate your common sense. Some of us can’t get out - family obligations, employment opportunities, love of certain aspects of the state, etc. keep us here. Doesn’t make us any less conservative than someone living in Texas or another red state.

With me both apply. I would love nothing more than to escape California to my property in Idaho but family and business are keeping me here.

I like how some of the more obnoxious posters criticize California and its people forgetting, apparently, that the owner of this forum, the forum itself and the very server they post their comments on are all located located here.

Thanks for the links!

I personally think Paul - while intelligent - is a bit of a psycho.

lol! 10 of the 18 congressmen/women representing Illinois are Republicans as is Senator Mark Kirk. Someone had to elect them.

As someone who has lived in California and has relatives in the state, I can appreciate what you say. In so many ways, it is paradise. But human beings have ruined it, haven’t they? I can remember when Southern Cal was Republican.

Hope one day you can escape to Idaho. Also hope that the great state of California will make comeback. Cheers. Miss M.

Not this one. Doing actual Ron Paul campaign work, instead of a lot of chit chat.

I remember 2008, when every Duncan Hunter supporter was here on FR instead of campaigning for Duncan Hunter.

If it comes down to Romney v Paul, I expect you’ll see more Paul supporters reminding unhappy freepers that Romney is nothing like a conservative, and that “war all the time” was brought to the Republican party by Bill Kristol’s dad.

Some freepers have trouble putting 2 and 2 together. Yes, Bill Kristol was not being a conservative when he attacked Cain this morning. But, also, and this is a key point, he has never been a conservative, and his dad, Irving, has never been a conservative, and “war all the time” was the traditional DEMOCRAT position.

Kristols have NEVER been conservative.
