Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno did the right thing and reported an eye-witness report of child sex abuse by Jerry Sandusky in the football locker room in 2002, according to the indictment released this morning by the state Attorney General.

His bad behavior was known to all BEFORE The 2002 incident. JP didn't report it to the police and they all continued to their old relationships with Sandusky meanwhile letting him prey on boys for another decade. Tis a very black mark on PSU AND Paterno.

It’s sounding like quite a few people knew about this. This might just end up being Paterno’s legacy, and it’s sounding like several people could be headed to jail over this.

While it’s perhaps a bit off topic, it seems that high-level whitewashing of wrongdoing by influential people affiliated with Penn State has become something of a tradition.

(I am referring to the free pass given to Michael Mann of Climategate infamy.)

Seems to me Paterno could have done a lot more to stop this, even if he did report it.
