No offense but New England types are whiners.”

Totally agree. There were some areas of Galveston after Ike that didn’t have power for weeks. The poles and lines were simply gone, even though the houses were there. We were without power for over three weeks in the Houston burbs. Try going through 85 plus degrees at night with no air.

I was born and raised in CT and we had no A/C (houses were mostly radiator heat) and 85-100 degree heat waves were common in late July and early August.

On the other hand, having no heat when it's 5 degrees out is another matter. It isn't realistic to compare different parts of the country on these things. The same Californian who can't deal with no A/C or snow, laughs when modest earthquakes hit that scare visitors. Also, CT is FILLED with trees. Having blocked roads everywhere is a big deal. This was a serious incident, made worse because of the inability to go to a nearby town and get fuel for your car or generator easily.

I am a New Englander enjoying the first full day of power in a week. I agree with you.

I was getting so angry at the pols for whipping up a frenzy over this. I tried over and over to explain how devastating the damage was to folks who were bitching. Just from my own house, back to the main trunk, about a mile away the lines were down in eight places and the roads were blocked with downed trees.

It took the crews working 18 hour days, three days to just get in to cut the trees off the lines, and then they could start retiring.

To have the Govenor say they need to work harder just tells me he is an idiot who has no clue what he is talking about. The last thing you want are linemen working 20 hours in a row. You will just end up with dead linemen.
