Allens own wife and family have donated money to Planned Parenthood in the past. In 2000, Allen responded to a questionnaire, saying that abortion should be legal prior to viability. The Republican National Coalition for Life said Allens view,
can only be described as pro-choice, not pro-life. Again, its not that Allen is crazy for abortion, but he is not one of us on life.

This Radtke fellow is just fine, but.....I have no use for Eric Erickson, “Red State” and their destroy Herman Cain campaign!!! A man is innocent until proven guilty in these United States of America!!! Shame on Erickson and his cohorts!!! IMHO, they are in the same league as America destroyer POTUS Obama. Now, I am not saying they should support Mr. Cain for POTUS, they can choose, whomever they want, but......beating on him without concrete facts and proof was totally uncalled for and I feel all real conservatives should cast a plague on their house for their “dirt bag” tactics!!!
I met George Allen twice and was quite unimpressed. He is a dumb jock and a Cliff Notes Conservative.
You can add HotAir to that sentiment.
With all the retired military folks in that state I am always astounded that you guys (The VA GOP) have such a touch time finding guys to run who’ve served.
Virginia has a long tradition of really, really dumb US Senators. Remember when the truly brilliant Jim Miller challenged Liz Taylor’s mentally challenged ex-husband? Ugh. Jefferson weeps.
Like Jim Webb ??? Or maybe Chuck Robb???
Well yes, guys who didn’t sit out the war and leave military service to somebody else. Personally, I had in mind Jeremiah Denton or Duncan Hunter or Allan West.
Maybe guys like Denton, Hunter and West go home after their service, instead of staying in VA? All 3 mentioned have served from OTHER states. Oh, but our former Sen. John Warner served. Lotta good that did the conservative cause.
Being a vet who’s served doesn’t necessarily translate to a conservative ideology.
Being a conservative who served translates into walking the walk. What was Allan’s excuse? Burr’s?
Why don’t you write Allen and ask him? Could be the same reason as Cheney and others who’ve served honorably in government. Allen was a student till 1977, after the draft was ended and the last US troops were driven out of Vietnam.
I don’t have to write them, Dick already said he had “other priorities”, which I translate to mean he was satisfied leaving it to other men to do. Leaving it for other men to do is a decades long tradition in many families, sadly many supposedly ‘patriotic’ ones as well. As an aside, I don’t equate government employment with military service. In many areas of the country, working for the federal government is the easiest, most secure and most lucrative employment to be had; it is in no way a sacrifice and certainly not comparable to a soldier or marine on their thrid tour in Iraq or a sailor completing his second month underwater or at sea.
