Actually, Lincoln's people got it from one of the later verses of the poem "The Star Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."

That’s true, but the motto was on our money a good thirty years before the Star Spangled Banner was made our official anthem. Before that, it was just a poem.

Correction: Star Spangled Banner was recognized by the Navy first. The president (Wilson) recognized it (by what authority I don't know) in 1916, and it didn't become our anthem until 1931 (Hoover).
