Writing pseudo-Motown led to a contract as a songwriter with Motown itself, and Webb got excellent placement with a Christmas song on the Supremes 1965 album Merry Christmas. The opening bars employ the same chord pattern used by Pachelbel in his famous Canon in D, although Webb resolves it differently. Its not bad, but it doesnt show promise of what was to come. Motown was not going to be Webbs town after all.
