No, Texans have had lousy choices for conservative candidates. Perry is the turf sandwich with the most amount of sugar applied.

I believe that California still has a higher GDP than Texas. I also think that poverty rate is a percentage of that states population, so population size doesn’t matter. Correct me if I am wrong.

I agree... I have been reading on FR a while now and finally took the plunge to joining and commenting.... I hope that I could engage in some honest debates without getting in some flame wars... I will endeavor to stay out of flame wars and simply stick to discussion/debate.

“I have no desire to see our country look like Texas.

Texas has the second-highest poverty rate among the 50 states, behind only Mississippi..... It has the second-highest percentage of population without a high school diploma...... It is tied with Mississippi for having the biggest percentage of workers paid at or below the minimum wage.”

....additionally a large steady infiltration of Muslims...by invitation... from Gov. Perry.

No thank you.

I would like to see the statistics on this. I have a suspicion that they are taken out of context.

Poverty Level: Texas has a lower standard of living compared to the rest of the country, Someone making $40,000 in TX is better off than someone making the same amount in NY.

High School: My guess is that this includes Illegal Immigrants as well since it is Federally mandated that K-12 be given to Illegals.

Minimum Wage: How can you pay someone on the books under minimum wage? That is against the law, now if it under the table no way of knowing what the statistic is because its off the books.

Muslims: I would like to see a credible source where Gov. Perry is “inviting” Muslims to cross the Mexican border. I'm not contesting that there is a Muslim infiltration problem across the border, but I do not believe that the Gov. is inviting them.

However being as I haven't seen the source of the statistics or methodology for finding these statistics I'm simply stating my opinion based on known information available to me.

I’d say caww read the article and has offered reasoned points of rejoinder.

I don’t desire the rest of the country to become North Mexico either.

It's tough. there is a handful of people who will jump any Perry thread and throw out lies, innuendo and smart ass remarks, you have to ignore them for the most part.

Welcome and be prepared to be called names by alot of people here. Keep engaged.

Its too poorly written and researched to discus rationally.

“Lovely Hamlets of New Hampshire that is Texas?”

And no explanation for people in other states that in Texas the Governor and The Lieutenant Governor share power and run on separate tickets. In some areas the Lieutenant Governor has more power.

I would say an article in a national news outlet that leaves that out is drivel. It is something people would need to know.

Norte Mexico 175 years ago.

From one American to another, Texas is not North Mexico and we have a proud heritage here in Texas. Texans fought for their freedom on their own and we would do it again. I give all respect to all the states but Texas is the state spending the big bucks and using our resources to protect Americas border.

The poster didn't read the article because the article is not about that at all.

Getting lost, however, among the governor's adventures in the lovely hamlets of New Hampshire is that Texas, with or without him, has a story the rest of the U.S. should hear—the parts of the country that want a better economy than they've got now.

what is your point in not posting the entire sentence?

Yes you are correct.

California is number 1 and Texas is number 2 regarding economy.

But California increased 17% in the last decade.
Texas overtook New York and increased 27% in the last decade.
Probably a lot due to the real estate bubble and jobs. I think Calif took a much bigger hit than Texas in real estate.

Also the cost of living needs to be included.

I know a couple recently who moved from Calif to Texas.
His company relocated from Calif to Texas.
They sold their home in Calif for approx 1.5 million and purchased a home here in Texas that was well over twice the size of the one in Calif for a little over $400K.

Cost of living in Texas is low and taxes are really low.

His company moved because of lower taxes, lower regulations and my guess the tort reform laws Tx passed.

By the way, you do know Rick Perry was the Lt. Governor too and the 1st Republican Lt. Governor ever elected in Texas. Thanks for also pointing out that Perry did not run on the same ticket as GWB but ran separately. In fact GWB had a Democrat Lt. Governor named Bob Bullock when GWB first became Governor. Perry became Lt Governor later.

The article is about the pluses and he presents the minuses.

Texas businessmen make billions pushing the cost of hiring illegals onto the American taxpayer, and they spend millions lobbying against enforcing our immigration laws.

The result? Texas ends up headed toward a Hispanic-majority state. You (collectively, and Perry) register almost the lowest educational test scores in the country and then tell us it isn’t your fault.

The rest of our country doesn’t want to end up like Texas and I, for one, hold Texans in good part responsible that we’ve gone down that road as far as we have.

Thanks for the response. I would certainly say that California is on the path to self destruction. It’s just a matter of time.

That is a great post.

That is the first thing I thought when he started running for the election.

My thoughts: Governor, we Texans get what you are saying but you are not talking to Texans anymore. Governor, you need to talk to the American People now and most don’t know a thing about Texas.

And many of the arguments by our fellow Republicans when it comes to Perry is because they don’t understand how things are here or our history. Perry supporters have to as you say “explain from scratch” why and how etc...

That was a very good post and point made by you.

Well, this Texan does not want that.

Don’t give up.

I love California and hope the best for you guys.

Hopefully and God Willing, we will get a President in the United States that will turn this country around.

And that will help Calif, at least on a national level.

I think once the border is secure, Texas and California will soar economically even more than they are now without the drag both states have from illegals.

I know many hold Perry responsible for every illegal coming into this country instead of the Federal Government and Obama as they should. But there is not a doubt in my mind that Perry will secure the border if he becomes President.

All of the southern border states understand the effects of our Federal Gov and Obama not doing it’s constitutional duty to secure the border more than anyone.

I’m a Florida resident. I didn’t mean to imply that I’m from California. California has more than just illegals as a problem. I am now a cynic and I don’t have much confidence in California’s future. I would like to be surprised though.
