With a 2,000 mile border, 400 military outpost manned with no fewer that 20 troops at any given time. Constant patrol and the authority to actually shoot.

With electronic surveillance and drones you would only need about 1/4 that force on the ground. Add a a 'quick response' team with gunship support every 100 miles.

I don't know how many are on the southern border -CNN says about 4- but they need many more. It is an incredibly useful tool.
