Good point re: the military vote.
Why is there always a panic at the last minute to get these military votes counted? It’s not like it’s a big surprise that these elections are held in November every couple of years, yet just like clockwork, something will go wrong at the last minute and the ballots will not be mailed (or otherwise made available) to the military on time.
You’re right; the GOP does NOTHING to fight for these votes.

Maybe the GOP thinks there are too many conservative votes in the military absentee pile? That’s why the Dems do it.
There is no reason I know of for this fiasco. Votes should be tallied on site at foreign bases and the results sent back to the states electronically. Why are we still handling ballots from overseas as if we still lived in the time before radio?
Since federal election candidates are set during the summer of 2012, why not have each state send absentee ballots to the military at that time. The followup state and local ballots can be sent later.
That way there can be no delay in voting. Early voting already exists in most states, just make a federal ballot with an early voting period for overseas military.
These can be check against voter registration rolls, and flagged as already voted prior to the general election.
