BANGOR, Maine — Occupy Bangor protesters who have camped out overnight on Bangor Public Library property since last weekend have expressed their views peacefully thus far, according to library officials. As a result, the library’s board members on Tuesday voted 6-2 not to adopt a policy that would prohibit the demonstrators from camping out on library property after 10 p.m.

Unless it is a private library, the boneheads running it can’t make that decision. It is public property and must abide by all the public use rules and regulations.

“local taxpayers should make their wrath felt.”

These are the taxpayers who send Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to the Senate. Compromise is in their DNA.

I’m betting that after their lawn is trashed and the facilities are toast, they are going to have a change of mind. Until then, they are a bunch of panty-wastes!

A lot of people who run libraries are more liberal than Dick Obama’s cabinet.

Oh goodie!

A free campground has opened up.

Next summer when I go up to Maine, I’ll have to “occupy” a prime spot there to pitch a tent, set up the barbecue, and relax on my lawn chair with a few cold beers...

Maybe we should publicize this with the Maine Dept. of Tourism and national and international hiking and camping guides and web sites.

They’re also probably the loneliest people; away from a college/university, libraries are museums. Today’s children can see those ancient tomes yesterday’s children pored over years ago, before electronics became the sole media.

I donate $40/year to my local public library. I betcha the whole kit and kaboodle of those jerks haven’t donated $40 among them in their lifetimes. If my public library did a stunt like that, they would *never* see another penny from me.

Let ‘em camp out.
Another month and they will freeze to death if they try and stay there.
Maine winters are brutal!
We can’t talk sense to them, because it doesn’t work.
Maybe Mother Nature can show them a thing or two.

If I were a resident of the county I”d be calling and telling them that the next levy I would vote down.

It depends. I know a woman who works in a upper middle class suburban library and she is far from lonely. They don't have the old stuff a large downtown library might have but they can have it sent to them if someone needs it. They do a huge business in best sellers, DVDs, large print books for older folks, out of town newspapers, and business info. They take books to shut-ins. They have a lot of computer terminals for people to use. They've got meeting rooms and speakers that come in. I've been there and the place is very busy.

I forgot to mention, that it is well-supported financially and has had several additions and updates. If they pulled a stunt like the one in the article, they would never pass a levy again.

I see; sounds like they did a better job keeping themselves relevant than many suburban libraries.
