Free Republic founder Jim Robinson has a message for supporters of Mitt Romney: go away.
In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:
Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency.

My main focus in those days was against abortionist, gun-grabbing, gay pride day parade leader, cross dressing Rudy Giuliani. He was the GOP elite establishment darling at the time and was the leading RINO.
Romney’s RINOism was blatant and we all knew he didn’t stand a chance. Just continue posting his videos and he shoots himself down every time. We also knew that Shamnesty McCain didn’t stand a chance so he was basically ignored.
However, we were not blessed with any great conservative candidates back then, so the last RINO dog standing at the end of the bloody dogfight got the nod. But He was such a dog, that not even Palin could pull it out for him.
It was NO to Rudy McRomney in 2008 and it’s still NO to Rudy McRomney today.
This time we were blessed with a potentially great God, family, guns and oil patriotic conservative candidate in Sarah Palin, but the likes of Karl Rove and his band of elite establishment RINOs joined the smear attacks from the left and made it all but impossible for her to run. They did the same to Bachmann and are now trying to bring down Cain and Perry.
I pray one of our conservative hopefuls stays the course and wins the day, but I swear if Romney is the one, then I’m out. If liberal progressive Romney is the best the GOP has to offer, then I’m no longer a Republican. The Republican party will no longer be even a pretend conservative party and will have left me.
Go TEA party!!
Long live the TEA party rebellion!!
FUMR!! FUKR!!
This isn't the time to worry about image. And the time for talk is over as well.

Sadly, no he doesn’t.
“However, I believe that: 1) We are all better off hearing and reading, thinking over, and deciding based upon thorough information. Information that survives examination and analysis as factual and sensible, and 2) simply giving a loud Bronx cheer does nothing to enlighten any discussion, except to resemble some of the Columbia University students and others when any speaker addresses them with an unpopular thought. Their hostilityand idiocyprecludes any positive result, and only reinforces mindlessness.”
In the academic sense, I would probably agree with you. But unfortunately the internet in general and blogsites in particular are not conducive to genteel debate. Anonymity does not make for better dialogue. So in order to keep some semblance of peace, moderators at most blogsites have to resort to the zot or some similar mechanism. Contrary to thinking that the zot limits debate, I believe it actually enhances it. Obnoxious anonymous posters do not enhance the debate, they silence it.
The real question is: where do you draw the line?
At FR, the line has been clearly drawn at pimping candidates who oppose the basic principles of the website. Mitt Romney has been defined by the owner of this website as a candidate who opposes the basic principles of the website. It’s not like that’s a secret withheld from posters. Heck, Jim did everything but call a press conference and run ads on tv.
As for whether this site is “fair” or wise in doing that, I can only share my own personal experience. I signed up on this website as an open and notorious democrat (although I am no longer one). I made no secret of my previous affiliation, nor my disdain for the gop. I continue to view the gop as incompetent at best, malevolent towards conservatives in practice, and long past the point where it should have taken it’s place on the ashheap of history.
And yet I have never even been threatened with the the zot at FR. I guess it doesn’t hurt that in many instances I happen to agree politically with the management of the website, but there have been plenty of times where I haven’t. And yet I’m still here.
I believe the correct saying is, "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."
This would, of course, apply to the ZOTTEE and not to you.
Toby Keith donates to Perry......where are his brains?
I’m an atheist and non-Christian and I’ve been posting here since 2001. (I changed my screen name because I was getting too many pings I couldn’t stop.)
I’ve had some disagreements with folks here over my atheism, but as is the case in the real world, I understand I am a tiny minority.
I feel more comfortable with Christians than I do with atheists. Atheists are full of hatred—no, I don’t mean some, I don’t mean a few, I don’t mean they have disagreements. I call myself an atheist, but I mean that as the dictionary-definition. In reality, atheists hate Christians and Christianity.
I say this as an exception to that rule, and as someone who’s been known as an atheist for decades now. So atheists think I’m one of them, and they let loose around me.
It’s scary stuff.
Sorry to drone on, but your post was an opportunity for me. There are many Christians who seem hateful of atheists to me, but they are a minority. I have never had an issue here because I am not really part of FR, since I’m not a Christian, so I don’t denounce Christianity. I guess I’m not really part of the atheist world, either, because of that same point.
I hope atheists and non-Christians are welcome here if we want to discuss politics, and even sometimes religion—just because I don’t believe doesn’t mean I can’t express an informed opinion.
I have also had multiple FReepers mail me expressing their hope I return to the church. These folks are always, always kind and thoughtful, not just the cliche of the babbling hellfire-spouting “believer”.
I don’t think any one type should be banned from a place called “Free Republic,” but that’s merely my opinion. Jim can obviously do as every other person who owns a website does, ban whomever, for his own reasons.
I find him rather open in terms of allowing discussion, and I appreciate him, his site, and the Christians who dominate here.
NOT ON MY WATCH!! Long live the TEA party rebellion!! Long live our FREE Republic!! |
ROTFL. Wonderful graphics! Yes, it’s his turn, according to GOP idiot policy and some of the punditry. Too bad, because not one primary vote has been cast, so we’ll see about his ascent to the throne.
The Boss has a way with words!
He said,
Don’t pee on his leg and try to tell him it’s raining!
ZOT!
Is this accurate? I hadn’t heard. I mean, is it an “official” ban of open Romney supporters?
NO, I’m NOT a Romney supporter. I’m an ARDENT opponent. I’m also not a reactionary Conservative who hates Romney. He would be bad for the country — but, as bad as Obama?
I’m not trying to “tweak” anybody. I just wonder how “narrow” FR is going to define itself. And which candidate and his/her supporters might be banned next if this is the case?
Please — I ask that you think before you ban.
Respectfully,
Patriot Preacher
That was fun Jim, thank you.
Point made. Any questions?
Well, I’ll tell you how narrow it’s going to be and has always been. FR does not and will not support abortionists for the presidency. Nor gay marriage advocates. Nor gun grabbers. Nor global warming pushers. Nor mandate loving big government RINOs. Nor government healthcare pimps.
Is that okay by you?
Well, maybe after reading post 615 the point hasnt sunk in.
Because he doesn't stay bought.
Naw. It's Politburo. Or Minitru.
