Cain's Troubles Help Perry, Romney (Anti-Cain whispering campaign started weeks ago)

Whether you are talking about George McGovern in 1972, Jimmy Carter in 1976, Howard Dean in 2004, or even the second coming of McCain in 2008, they had considerably more of a campaign apparatus than Cain. Their campaigns were often unorthodox, but their actions were rarely random. They didn’t surge to the top based on seat-of-the-pants decisions.

In short, there was method to their madness. With Herman Cain’s candidacy, there hasn’t been. There has been minimal fundraising. There has been truly bizarre scheduling that only seemed to make sense in the context of selling autographed books at $100 apiece. (Why else would you go on a two-day bus trip of the length of Tennessee, which doesn’t vote until March 6)? My hunch is that Cain’s surge surprised no one more than Cain himself.

But there was more. Several weeks ago, word started circulating that Cain’s business record was not quite as impressive as he claims, specifically as it relates to his tenure as head of the National Restaurant Association. Some of his peers privately said that they were astonished at how he was being portrayed. They said that his less than three-year tenure (rather brief in the Washington trade-association world) was rocky and that the restaurant folks couldn’t get rid of him soon enough—possibly because of sexual-harassment allegations. They said it took some time to get the association back on sound financial footing after he left. Some who worked with Cain said that he spent considerable time running around the country giving speeches and that he was a policy lightweight, both internally and externally. But they hesitated to be more specific.

Sunday’s report in Politico that female subordinates complained of inappropriate behavior by Cain said they had received five-figure settlements to leave the restaurant association and keep quiet. This was little more than the shoe that many had been waiting to drop. Cain denied the allegations. But if there is documentation of any settlement, as there appears to be, his denial will hardly suffice.

This will probably be the beginning of the end for Cain’s surge, giving Perry something of a second wind. Perry had the funding, organization, and network to survive his tough period, although he remains damaged merchandise. It’s a decent bet that the GOP race will return to how it was after Perry stumbled but before Cain picked up steam. Perry has enough going for him to be the conservative alternative to front-runner Mitt Romney. Whether he can actually overtake the former Massachusetts governor is another matter, even though two-thirds of the GOP is more ideologically in tune with him than with the more “old establishment,” less-conservative Romney.

We’ve had four presidents die in office by assassination. Four more died in office for health reasons (Harding, Harrison, FDR, Taylor). The fact is, the nation survives.

Yet we’re supposed to be ‘concerned’ about this? Die in a changing world? Let’s revisit when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. If anyone wants to argue this there’s ample evidence they’re full of it.

I agree the Cain campaign should have been more prepared, sometimes “winging it” is not the best way to go. I also don’t see how this accusation could possibly help his campaign as some have suggested.

“I wonder what Bill Clinton has to say about all of this?”

Better ask Hillary, she's the one doing it.

In most f the cases when Hillary has tried to implement her “Scorched Earth Policy” there were accusations of sexual misconduct by a repub. as a way of providing a cover story.

Everyone has been led to believe “The Scorched Earth Policy” from Clinton's impeachment, was a threat to expose dirt and sexual misconduct against repubs., it wasn't.

The term ‘Scorched Earth Policy” comes from the Weather Underground playbook it means to orchestrate a race war as a way of overthrowing the govt of the US.

This shows you have no idea what has happened. Cain has flip flopped on the issue of abortion multiple times. http://theiowarepublican.com/2011/do-we-really-know-who-herman-cain-is/

There have been instances since these. http://race42012.com/2011/10/26/cain-botches-abortion-answer-yet-again-pro-life-with-no-exceptions-but-a-family-will-make-that-choice/

Nothing can help Perry, he’s dead. It is also unlikely that an anonymous whispering campaign about Cain could help liberal Romney. It could help Bachmann or Santorum.

It doesn’t take a whole lot to find out about Perry. The more you find out, the worse it gets.

If he rises in the polls, it won’t last very long.

He is about second to Obama as Crony Capitalism king. LOL

I fail to see where this has hurt Cain, if anything I think it may help him.

Read this thread (which most of you stayed away from) and follow the links.

The Gardasil deal was just a snippet.

No wonder Texans are sick of him. With him, we lose all arguments against Obama.

The Answer:

No, [what] it comes down to is, it’s not the government’s role — or anybody else’s role — to make that decision. Secondly, if you look at the statistical incidents, you’re not talking about that big a number. So what I’m saying is, it ultimately gets down to a choice that that family or that mother has to make. Not me as president. Not some politician. Not a bureaucrat. It gets down to that family. And whatever they decide, they decide. I shouldn’t try to tell them what decision to make for such a sensitive decision.

The Question:

Would you make your wife or daughter raise that child (the product of a rape)?

The interview was intentionally edited to make this sound like his answer to the abortion question.

No, it doesn't sway them because they live by the lie. But it can sway the vast majority of Americans, and that's what counts.

You’re just plain wrong - and you’re going to see it over the next few days. There is more to come.

Others have called you out over this remark (post #16) yet you still fail to respond. We're now up to post #57 (if not more) and all we get is silence. What do you know about this?

Being a Perry supporter, your implication is that Perry is behind this attack on Cain and will continue until Cain's poll numbers drop. The fact you can make a categorical statement must be backed up by you to maintain your credibility. Now, what do you know?

Hey, Alice...why don’t you just “wander” on back to your Perry threads with all of your “opinions” about Cain/Perry/Romney, etc. You go from thread to thread accusing Cain of changing his stories...take a closer look at Perry's gyrating.

You’re just plain wrong - and you’re going to see it over the next few days. There is more to come.

Really? Do tell us what facts you know. Shawnna L.M. Bolick...is that you?
