Snowstorm, Cold Makes Life In Zuccotti Park Difficult For OWS Protesters
CBS Local News ^ | 31 Oct 11 | evergolightly

(CBSNewYork) – Saturday’s snow storm made life in Zuccotti Park miserable for Occupy Wall Street protesters.

Demonstrators were left drenched with rain and then snow as the storm moved through the region. Central Park set a record for both the date and the month of October with 2.9 inches of snow.

Those camping out in the park have been stockpiling donated blankets, scarves, coats and have been trying to get more tents, cots and tarps.

According to an “urgent” alert on their website, OWS is looking for a number of other donations, including waterproof boots, gloves, hats, hand and foot warmers and disposable foot covers among other things. The site says the protesters “are in need of emergency supplies crucial for cold weather survival (and occupation).”

The site says they also need cots to get protesters off the ground, adding that they don’t have any and “could really use these.”

Reportedly, some have been even getting winter weather survival tips from the homeless.

They say they’re also looking for thermal heaters after fire officials removed six of the protesters’ gas-powered generators from Zuccotti Park on Friday, saying it was safety issue.

This poor dolts are worst than pathetic. Why don't they hire some union contractors to build them a green energy station to power their kitchen and media center?

Cots are cheap at the army navy store, plus it would help the local economy.

What is the $454k in donations for?

Why do they need handouts?

I wonder if any of the ‘organizations’ contributing to the OWS event (and such others) are getting tax break for their ‘charitable donations’

Is this the absolute cranial-rectal-inversion limit of ‘the world turned upside down’???

I still think we should spray them at night with firehoses. The cold and pneumonia sound like cures for what ails them.

—Evil corporations make those things...—

Where I live, there are lots of Amish quilts. Maybe I could send them some. But they’d need to pay in advance, and stuff made by hand, rather than evil corporations, tends to be prohibitively expensive.

Anybody watch the live stream of them over the weekend. This repeat what the speakers says is creepy.

They were even entertaining Angela Davis in NY this weekend. What is with the hand and finger movements?

These people can not live on their own without help from someone. If they can order it off the shelves; they can exist.

She should have stayed in Russia!

“What is the $454k in donations for?”

That money is gone. OWS leadership probably took it as expenses for their stay at the Waldorf and meals at Lu tece

Yeah, I watched it for about 45 minutes. It consisted of a guy rambling on. Spent about 30% of the time he was asking viewers to send donations of warm clothes, dry socks, dry sleeping bags, etc, about 20% of the time saying "hi" to people who stopped by his "anchor desk." He let one girl show her "revolutionary art" project, which looked to me about like the student-made artwork on the walls of a typical suburban middle school.

The remaining 50% of the time, he spent asking people to bring him pizza, or a hamburger. He finally got some action when he offered $5 for a slice.

OWS and the terminally homeless have a lot in common. America has been supporting them for years with food banks, shelters, free this and free that. When free stops, and reality sets in that money is what runs this world and that we are fast running out of free money, perhaps, the producers of the world will get the attention of the leaches of society.

"But the protesters are coming up with a new solution – a stationary bike and generator connected to a battery."

This will be an extremely good lesson in energy for the protesters. The bike will serve one purpose only: it will keep the pedaler warm for a few minutes. The amount of energy it will generate will be so trivial, that it won't even keep an laptop charged.

According to the article they reportedly raised more than $454,000 and spent only $50,000.

I smell a scam here.

Here’s a cool idea: let’s deliver hundreds and hundreds of truckloads of left boots only -enough to occupy the space. Overwhelm them with what they asked for—paralyze their infrastructure and BRING THE SOCIALIST PIGS TO THEIR KNEES!!! Then, let’s seize their assets from the accounts at the banks they hate, to compensate taxpayers for all our money that mayors and governors have spent subsidizing their numbskulled folly. Then, let’s sue the mayors and governors for malfeasance, abuse of the public trust, failure to enforce the law, and unequal protection under the law.

They can send Barry the bills for the legal fees. Maybe he’ll defend them himself.
