I remember John McCain suffering a similar high-tech lynching, back when the New York Times accused him of having an affair. And remember all those rumors about G. H. W. Bush committing adultery? That high-tech lynching was just awful.

Nothing is happening to Herman Cain that hasn’t been happening to politicians for centuries. Ah, but he’s black, so it’s a lynching! “High-tech” apparently means a lynching that is not fatal or, for that matter, even physical.

I think we need to dispense with the term “high-tech lynching”. The mild suffering of Herman Cain is not anywhere close to the extreme suffering of blacks who really were lynched. There is no legitimate comparison.

“They’re going to come after me more viciously than they would a white candidate,” Cain responded. “You’re right. Clarence Thomas. And so, to use Clarence Thomas as an example, I’m ready for the same high-tech lynching that he went through — for the good of this country.” Cain smiled broadly. “I’m ready for the same high-tech lynching.”
