Herman Cain's campaign headquarters has released a response to a story, broken this evening on Politico, that in the 1990s two female employees of the National Restaurant Association "complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain," who at the time was head of the trade group.
Calling the story "thinly source allegations," Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon said: "Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can." Gordon did not address any of the specific allegations in the report. Asked for a more specific answer, the campaign did not provide details.
Here is Gordon's complete response:
Inside the Beltway media attacks Cain
Fearing the message of Herman Cain who is shaking up the political landscape in Washington, Inside the Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain.
Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cains tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.
Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can.
Sadly, weve seen this movie played out before a prominent Conservative targeted by liberals simply because they disagree with his politics.
Mr. Cain -- and all Americans, deserve better.
Cain is likely to face questions about the matter on Monday. He is scheduled to appear at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington in the morning to discuss his 9-9-9 tax plan, and then speak -- and take questions -- at the National Press Club at lunch.
Well all I know is that there is no sex anywhere in this story. If there were we would know the details already.
So its much ado about nothing.
What I took offense at was that it was clear that rather than deal with the issue, there was an effort to hush it up. She was offered a way out to keep quiet.
A third party, likely a Democrat, is offended that she as a board member was not consulted prior to a settlement. The board likely had a committee to do such things or the president had inherent authority. This is not persuasive.
The fact that Politico mentions these irrelevant circumstantial facts indicates that they are grasping at straws.
Cain is saying nothing because he doesn't need to. Confidentiality agreements seal this.
In any event, there was no touching, just alleged innuendos.
This is a case where Cain should have put it out himself. Remember GWB’s DUI? He sort of hinted at it in the campaign, but it came out 4 or 5 days before election day.
The sources which include the recollections of close associates and other documentation describe episodes that left the women upset and offended. These incidents include conversations allegedly filled with innuendo or personal questions of a sexually suggestive nature, taking place at hotels during conferences, at other officially sanctioned restaurant association events and at the associations offices. There were also descriptions of physical gestures that were not overtly sexual but that made women who experienced or witnessed them uncomfortable and that they regarded as improper in a professional relationship.
Boo hoo!
One problem the media has - they can't control our vote.
They must have a big effect on you...throwing up the white flag of defeat already?
I hope I’m wrong, it doesn’t look good and there’s likely more to come.
So far I have read posts virtually accusing Romney, Perry, and Rove of outing this Cain sexual harassment allegation. Whatever the truth is of these allegations, the actual source is not at this time tied to any of the three names mentioned. It is wrong to try and make political hay for one candidate by accusing the other candidates of behavior which is unverified and is an unfair, uncalled for, smear in itself. Campaigns do a lot of stupid things and negative attacks seem to have become the standard for some political managers. However, this attack on Herman Cain will not benefit any of the other candidates even if it destroyed him. There are many other sources with vested interests in keeping Obama in power to represent the democrat party and it’s socialist agenda. Attempts to pick off Republican candidates will continue and probably not a one is immune to scandalization of something in their lives, past or present. We have to keep our focus on the real enemies of this Republic.
That's Justice Thomas to you.
So actually, it worked not at all.
Why, to have this blowback would simply make liberal heads exlode, if both the damage control AND the going on s-hot offense could occur skillfully in the next 24-48 hour news cycle. LOL! EAGLES UP! DON'T WORRY FOLKS, WE WERE TO EXPECT THIS. TAKE THIS NEGATIVE ENERGY AND PROCESS IT TO "POSITIVE" AND TURN IT RIGHT BACK ON THEM.
Unbunch your panties. Politics ain't beanbag.
Great idea. If they don't think of it on their own - the 'Cain Train' followers can do it on their own!
“So I wonder what Herman did, exactly, to these women ...like hold the door open for them or something??”
Probably called ‘em “honey”.
” In any event, there was no touching, just alleged innuendos.”
“The woman revealed at the time that she had suffered what the source described as an unwanted sexual advance
from Cain at a hotel where an event involving the group
was taking place.”
Zot baby Zot!!!
I'm heartless and proud baby!!!
Why not let it play out? Why go to war? To claim racism is a huge mistake. It won’t work and will make people angry. It didn’t work when Cain tried to jump on the racism wagon against Perry with the N-rock. People knew Perry was not a racist. If this is not true, it will certainly die a quick death. I don’t want our candidates beat up by the press or posters either. I intend to vote for the last man standing and I hope his credibility is still intact.
I’M thrilled there was no sex involved. And there was no harassment in an office setting thank god.
The liberals, Perry supporters, and Romney supporters will have to come up with something better than this!
