Texas Gov. Rick Perry is sliding in the polls but he is not budging concerning his stance on college tuition for illegal immigrants in his state, according to New Hampshire's Union Leader.
In an interview with the newspaper yesterday, Perry, who has come under attack from Republican presidential rival Mitt Romney for his position on the issue, defended the policy in Texas which permits some illegal immigrants to pay in-state college and university tuition.
"We could kick these people to the curb and pick up their cost of being in our state through other sources, social programs up to and including incarceration because they are unskilled workers and what might occur with that scenario," he told the paper in explaining choices his state could have taken.
"Do we want to create tax wasters or do we want to create taxpayers," Perry said in talking about the tuition program which is available to students who have graduated high school and been in Texas for three years.

It will doom any chance he had at all of winning, as even Hispanics do not like pandering to illegals.
So, these people aren't ALREADY a drain via OTHER sources?
Are you saying this direct quote is not accurate?
“We could kick these people to the curb and pick up their cost of being in our state through other sources, social programs up to and including incarceration because they are unskilled workers and what might occur with that scenario,”
It’s nothing but a scam. Perry’s business interests want to educate their illegal workforce at the taxpayers expense, while still reaping the profits of exploiting their illegal workforce.
Have a heart, people...
No I”m saying listen to the entire portion to get the total response to the question.
Yeah, what he’s not saying is, those who take advantage of this wonderful, heartfelt gift may also ‘be eligible for state aid’.
The one issue Perry still hasn’t addressed, nor any of the debaters on stage, is why educate these illegals for ANY reason when, by Federal law, they can’t legally work (and pay taxes) in the U.S. regardless of their “education”.
If Rick Perry has an ounce of common sense he will politely refuse to answer this question again about Texas bargain rate tuitions for illegal aliens. He can say he has already said all he can say on it
“Have a heart, people...”
How many of the world’s 7 billion can we have a heart to? why pick and choose those who do not contribute to this country? why not let in only those who improve the overall quality? If I wanted cheap labor, I would go to Somalia or Bangladesh, where people would be willing to work for 1/10 of what an Mexican would.
And how are they getting these illegal immigrant kids enrolled in school? We had to have Social Security #'s for our kids before they could be enrolled.
There were 4 dissenters with regard to this legislation. The path that Perry (along with OTHER states) have planned is if they attended high school for 3 years, they have to become legal and PAY the in-state tuition.
Funny how you think your name calling is going to make Cain look good. It does not.
Um. They have to become legal to get the in-state tuition. Hence, employable. Please do your research.
For that matter where is the brave soul who will bring a case against educating illegal aliens k-12? Take it to the Supreme Court along with a challenge to the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment that makes anchor babies US citizens. US Citizenship should be a very precious thing. At least it used to be. The right to live here legally with a green card should be very precious. There has been a huge loss of national pride in the last 30 years otherwise we would not allow this immigration invasion or the decimation of our industries via that bs called free trade
