In the Iowa voters result, Paul took 82%. Following him were Herman Cain with 14.7%, Rick Santorum with 1%, Newt Gingrich with 0.9%, Michele Bachmann with 0.5%, Rick Perry with 0.5%, Gary Johnson with 0.2%, with Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman 0%.
The total number of votes cast in that tally was 430.

In Alabama, Herman Cain beat Ron Paul 51-45. Herman Cain was in Alabama.
I would assume that only Paul and Cain and/or their supporters care at all about these straw polls.
But all the other candidates do so ridiculously badly, it's almost like they're spending time calling their supporters, telling them NOT to show up.
With 430 total votes, and those percentages, Mitt got 0 votes Huntsman got 0 votes Gary Johnson got 1 vote Michele got 2 votes Perry got 2 votes Newt got 4 votes Santorum got 5 votes.
7 candidates - 14 votes. Embarassingly bad.
Clearly, nobody really likes any of those 7 candidates. Alabama was a similar result.
I’d kill to have Ron Paul as the next Secretary of the Treasury. But that’s as far as I’d go.
Give Ron Paul just one task. To dismantle the Dept.of Education

Unlike the Florida Republican Straw Poll, virtually all these others are suspect as some attendees are paid to be there to skew the results by a virtual crashing of the party. That didn’t happen in Florida because of the rules of being accepted as a delegate by the local REC’s.
Virtually all of the others are organized by little groups to make money on the deal and leave attendance as a first come, first serve limited seating basis and the Paulbots are very organized in this respect alone.
I would be very interested to know the attendance rules for the Alabama event.
The Des Moines Register Iowa poll conducted from Oct 23-Oct 25 is a phone survey taken of likely Republican caucus goers. It can’t be spammed, like the straw poll.
In this most recent phone poll, they have Cain at 23%, Romney at 22%, Paul at 12%, Bachmann at 8%, Gingrich at 7%, Perry at 7%, Santorum at 5% and Huntsman at 1%.
Cain has campaigned in Iowa only once since mid-August. Romney has campaigned in Iowa only three days this year. Paul has campaigned in 12 Iowa cities in September and October. Maybe he would have polled better if he’d stayed away from Iowa too.
LOL! The 6%er’s strike again!
I love when they spammed my Merryland straw poll last election and got 80% too. Useless sycophants RuPaul doesn’t have the guts to tell his minions to STFU because they make him look even more unelectable.
He's bonafied.
“Give Ron Paul just one task. To dismantle the Dept.of Education”
Bachmann is also big on getting rid of the Education Dept.
The Ernest T. Bass of politics.
People that take straw polls too seriously has straw between the ears.
The Des Moines Registers new Iowa Poll show something much more beleivable.

Cain 23%
Romney 22%
Paul 12%
Bachmann 8%
Perry 7%
Gingrich 7%
Santorum 5%
Huntsman 1%
lol!
Ernest T was a funny guy. Ron Paul is just pathetic.
I live in New Mexico so my primary vote is too late to count.
Ron who?
Make him Sec. of Education.
He shuts the Dept. of Education down.
Repeat with HUD, Dept. of Energy, etc.
Ron Paul and Herman Cain are the only 2 who care about these straw polls.
The Florida straw poll was one that Cain planned for months in advance. It paid off for him. Perry made an effort there but he jumped in too late, and Cain had already put in the ground work.
I don’t know the rules of the Alabama event, but the Iowa Straw Poll was Iowans only.
I would think that the other campaigns might want a little GOTV practice, etc etc. The straw polls don’t measure the general sentiment of the public, but they do mention the ability of a campaign to get people to show up for them and complete the task for them.
Ron Paul has many many supporters in Iowa who are just rarin to get to that caucus. The Ron Paul campaign is all over Iowa and is getting ready for an intense GOTV effort.
The other campaigns (not including Cain) just seem to have nothing going on at all. No boots on the ground.
If the Cain people can claim that straw polls mean more than they do, so can I.
