SEATTLE- The U.S. Border Patrol has quietly stopped its controversial practice of routinely searching buses, trains and airports for illegal immigrants at transportation hubs along the northern border and in the U.S. interior, preventing agents from using what had long been an effective tool for tracking down people here illegally.
...
The situation is similar in upstate New York... instead of checking buses or trains, agents have spent shifts sitting in their vehicles gazing out at Lake Erie and Lake Ontario..."They're already bored," the agent said. "You grab the paper every day and you go do the crossword."

You know it’s dire when people aren’t sneaking in. How about those sneaking back out? Better yet, I am sure the Candians vote dim.
Not a lot of Canadians trying to sneak in.
Is AP giving jihadis a “go” signal or Americans a warning?
Have illegal Canadians been a problem in the past?
All theater for the media.
All theater for the media.
Along the northern border last fiscal year, the agency made 7,431 arrests.
a check of the Bellingham bus station in 1997 yielded an arrest of Palestinian Gazi Ibrahim Abu Mezer. Abu Mezer skipped out on a $5,000 bond only to turn up later in Brooklyn, where New York police shot him as he prepared to bomb the city’s subway system.
The would-be millennium bomb suspect Ahmed Ressam was arrested at the border in late 1999 when he left a ferry from British Columbia to Washington in a rented car full of explosives.
Lots of drug trafficking up here from canada... so I guess the no more arrest policy will affect that too
It was an alert US Customs agent that prevented Ahmed Ressam from gaining entrance through British Columbia and bombing LAX during the millennium.
I hate to say it but if things keep up the way they are going you might feel more free in BC than the USSA.
The DHS and Border Patrol have no problem with violating our 4th ammendment rights by putting up checkpoints 80-90 miles inside the USSA and stopping and searching law abiding Americans as they go about their business. Lets not leave out the SCOTUS which ruled its perfectly constitutional for them to search our vehicles at checkpoints without a warrant or reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.
So occupy Wall Street is not working because of mother nature. Sounds to me the AP is giving the bad guys a hint to something?
They probably hope that something happens. That way the people will unite around Obama as they did right after September 11th in order to get him reelected. Why else would a reporter write this? It makes no sense.
The lefties think that a Kent State type shooting now would help their revolution.
Oh yeah I know....
Leftist are full of emotion and do not think things through.
Seems like the majority of them do not understand human nature. Plus they only view it from a surface point of view.
For instance, if it’s a chess move, then they are only looking about two steps ahead instead of what are all our possible moves/choices/decisions 4 steps ahead.
I’ve been through the customs inspection at the Port of Port Angeles where Achmed Ressam was nabbed.
Most of the time, I am just asked one or two questions and waved on through, but they decided to search my vehicle one day.
You don’t know from thorough! They searched under the seats, pulled the rear seat out, checked that all the screws in the interior trim were in place, 3 of them checked that the bottle of penetrating oil was the real deal, they even let air out so they could SNIFF THE AIR IN THE TIRES!
Once they were done (I was there for almost 2 hours), they politely let me go about my business.
They were nothing but professional, and in fact I think they chose my vehicle simply because they had to pull someone over within the next “X” number of vehicles. That and perhaps my waist-length hair...
I pass through that customs post at least once or twice a year, and haven’t been even looked at cross-eyed by them since.
I have a LOT more hassle on the Canadian side. The customs officers here seem to have been forced to insert extraordinarily large “JERK” suppositories, and are quite well-practiced at maximizing said pill’s effect.
It would be nice if the US could lean on the Canadians to tighten up their immigration laws a bit.
