I question the honesty of this story. it just doesn’t make sense. the biggest problem with the whole line of reasoning is that to the extent that he has made “missteps”, they aren’t hurting him.

However, once his name recognition has gone up, a controversy a day really doesn't help him. Too much drama. I think he's wise to dial it back.

Now, if any of the others took all sides of an issue, it would be hurting them, as it would be recognized as a serious character flaw rather than a misstep or mistake.
