I don't know who you are but you aren't familiar with my posting history at all. Where in any of my posts did I bring up Ann Coulter? I despise her. I've called her "David Duke in a dress". I believe she dated Bill Maher, I know she is a regular on his show. This is the man who despises religion and regularly mocks anyone who believes in God.

I never said convert them to Christianity as I used my example of early missionaries in the 1800s who tried to mission to various Indian tribes they usually wound up dead in many pieces being hacked to death and paraded in some pagan Indian ritual.

Since you are such a genius, explain to me your strategy on winning in Afghanistan when Alexander the Great and the USSR both failed.

I'd love to hear it. And once again take your internet EPEEN "wrath" and go out and debate someone face to face. I am not afraid of debating people to their faces. You hide behind a monitor. During the 2003 Support Our Troop Rally in Chicago I got in the face of the anti-war filth who were the most hateful vermin I've ever come across. Could I have been beaten, shot, spit on? Yes, but I don't care, I stand up for what I believe in and don't need to hide behind a computer screen. So Mr. Wrath drop your hyperbole BS. Your wrath is as relevant as the cowards on #OWS Twitter acting like big tough guys.

Anyone who tries to prop themselves up as big guys on an internet forum as if they were some mobster with a crow bar ready to take out my knees is a #$^&#@^ joke!!!

You are concerned with locals who have pledged their lives to Islam. They completely support Sharia Law, just as the Japanese in 1945 pledged their lives to Emperor Hirohito. Even after we nuked Nagasaki do you realize there was a vote amongst the Imperial Leadership in Japan and it fell down to a tie and for the first time in the Japanese people heard Emperor Hirohito on the radio break the tie by declaring that Japan would surrender unconditionally to the Allies.

You really should study the War with Japan a little bit more in detail and you will further understand our War in Afghanistan. In Shintoism the Emperor is God. GOD, not just a President, Prime Minister or any other synonym for "leader", he is their God, whatever he says go. It took Emperor Hirohito demanding the end of hostilities before we got to V/E Day.

As long as the Afghanis are going to be hostage to radical Islam, you can't negotiate with fanatics. They are fighting in their mind a "holy war" a war to the death. They don't fear death because in their mind they believe they are going to Allah and 72 virgins. Have you taken any anthropology courses if you went to college?

All you would need is Anthropology 101 to understand not all cultures are equal. You are falling into the liberal trap of moral equivalency. There are still cannibalistic societies in South America.

Now I don't think Mohammed will come down from wherever he is to swayed the Afghanis to stop, but when Karzi said he would support Pakistan in a War against the United States after we gave billions, and thousands of American lives, how does that honestly make you feel?

Don't you in the least bit feel betrayed? Think about it this stooge was put into office and Bush is gone, most likely Obama will be gone and Karzi will still be in office. If you don't believe this man is corrupt than I am not even going to waste arguing with you because as a wise man stated, "hell is where logic does not exist". And you will not bring me to hell. The guy is heavily invested in the poppy / heroin trade. Karzi is for self survival and making as much money as possible. He is playing our leaders like a fiddle.

Now Marie, supports this endless war, I can't argue with her because her husband is putting his life on the line.

Personally, after everything changed for me after 30 members of Navy Seal Team 6 were shot down and killed, IMO, someone on the inside tipped off the Taliban, every military expert has stated that what occurred went against US Military Protocol. And many here sincerely believe this was Obama's peace offering for offing OBL.

That is my opinion, no amount of arguing from you, Marie or those other FReepers who believe we can do what Alexander the Great and the USSR couldn't accomplish. There is no Emperor Hirohito in Afghanistan who can change the mind of these butchering barbarians.

You know how the United States solved the problem of the Indians chopping up American missionaries? We killed them and burned their villages to the ground, and guess what? it solved the problem!!!

But in closing, please, never ever again compare me to Ann Coulter, she absolutely sickens me. Anyone who would date Bill Maher and still claim to be a conservative is as conservative as Algore.

To Marie: Everything you have said has shown you can argue in a sincere and caring manner. You are the absolute reason I love this website. You and I disagree and yet we at the end of the day can debate without bashing each other.

I want you to know that you, your husband and family are in my prayers. I pray this hell will end and your husband can return to you and your family enjoys a phenomenal life as your husband is a hero, but so are you. God Bless You is all I can say. Thank you and your family for your service.

My father served in Vietnam and I have many close friends who serve today whether it is in the Air Force or Marines so I understand the toll this takes on Military Families and I pray endlessly for your strength and ultimately peace. You seem like an amazingly strong person, and I think you represent the best things about this country. Please continue to update all of us on your husband, I know the tremendous toll this has taken on your family and you seem to be amazingly strong willed. Once again, God Bless You and your family! You are in my prayers!!!

Monte Casino was a semi-bluff by the Nazis stating that they never were actually in the Monastery but I find that extremely hard to believe.

In wars dating back to the dawn of time the army with higher ground has the advantage.

My point about bombing Monte Casino was that the military leaders of that time were not concerned about Public Opinion in Italy.

Because of that bombing yes, it gave the Germans more coverage but their situation would have been no different had we not bombed the Monastery. They had the high ground. New Zealand and Indian regiments were absolutely decimated trying to scale the mountain.

The only thing that won that battle was strength in numbers. My argument for that was that we did not hesitate to destroy a Holy Site. Our military leaders have ordered our troops NEVER to fire on a Mosque in any circumstances. So what does the enemy do? They go and hide in Mosques, and if there is a good spot for a sniper they will simply pick off our troops one by one.

If this policy continues we will be in this war not years but decades, and each generation born will be taught to hate the "crusaders".

Unfortunately, war changed precisely because of the matter in which we ended World War II. The military and politicians became fearful of mutually assured destruction. This is why Korea was a lost cause, Vietnam was a lost cause, because the military brass believed that either China or the USSR would counter with nuclear weapons.

And as you said because of our strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan we've shown the Pakistanis, Iranians and North Koreans that we won't use our most powerful and technologically advantaged weapon systems against them because the brass fears public opinion of the enemy's citizens and that of the BBC, CNN, Reuters and the other MSM outlets.

Obama pushed the "Arab Spring" resulting in Sharia in each of the countries where the leaders fell. And don't forget the Muslim Brotherhood is tied with Iran at the hip. This isn't "Transformers" where we can send robots to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities. With Zero giving up on Nasa and other countries quickly developing their own methods of entering space it won't be long before Iran has missiles capable of hitting any city in the US. And do you think a peace nick community organizer like Obama would strike back?

He'd probably apologize while the rest of the major cities in the US are nuked.

Finally, look at the stupidity of Israel in negotiating the release of 1000 murders for 1 soldier. Now terrorists are putting $100,000 bounties for the kidnap of Israeli soldiers, this is precisely why you don't negotiate with terrorists, you kill them.

It comes down to this age old fight between the hawks and the doves and the doves currently hold power. Other than Rick Santorum I don't see any of the current GOP candidates as hawks. I don't see them as doves either, I see them as status quo politicians.

And guess what? With our current "strategy" I guarantee we will have this same discussion in a few weeks, maybe a few months and folks like the guy who said I am an Ann Coulter fan will call me names, others will say we must win the "hearts and minds", ect...

I'll bookmark this thread as evidence of that. Today is October 29, 2011, I'll make sure I link this next time a dozen of our soldiers are wiped out and each time it happens I'll link this thread to show those of you who actually think you can change the minds of absolute fanatics as completely clueless of history.

I hate using this quote because it is overly used but I'm tired and need to get lunch but, "Those who do not know their history are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana.

At least my daughter’s soldier is coming home from Iraq tonight. Thank G-d that that conflict is almost over.

I pray that nobody I love ever has to step foot in that country again.

One down...

God Bless that news! I hope you all have a celebration!!! Like I said, I have nothing but the up most respect for you. And while we disagree about Afghanistan, your family is the heart and soul of this country. Without you we would have no country.

Every generation there are heroes and your family seems to be bursting at the seems with heroes and not just those fighting overseas but people like you, who are there supporting your family and your country.

I truly mean this when I say my prayers are with you and your family and may God Bless You, and watch over you and your family! You are true American heroes unlike the gutter rats protesting in parks in cities claiming to represent 99%. It is you and your family who represent the 99%. And we cannot thank you enough for ALL you and your family have done.

Once again Marie, God Bless You and that is coming from the bottom of my heart.

I really appreciate your post and learned much from it. God bless your husband and God bless you.

I think this is evermore the problem of fighting a war; the politicians sandbagging the military.

Has your husband said if things have been different -— better or worse -— since General Petraeus was relieved of command?

God help us. I hope the changes in clientele on this forum do not reflect the U.S. population.

There are so many more libertarians here now and many fewer of what they would call neocons.

Then we weren’t given the surge resources that were requested for way too long.

Yes, doesn't everyone remember how ubamahussein diddled over this for months on end, and then fired McChrystal for venting his frustration? We have a miserable, stupid poor excuse for CIC.

He didn’t specify, but I do know that things have gotten better since the surge came in. I’ll ask him tomorrow.

I think George Washington said it best in his farewell address about "foreign entanglements" but I guess Washington was an anti-war hippie according to you and the other PC War supporters.

So you hate every American who supports the War on Terror? That kind of makes you a hippie, doesn't it? Or maybe a RuPaul type isolationist. You could have made your points without personally insulting a courageous military wife.

Marie, as you can see, there are a host of freepers who support your husband in Afghan, all of our troops there, and who think Obama has royally loused this up and is planning to leave on a pre-announced schedule that will only give hope to the taliban.

This war was fought well at the beginning and victory was certain. Then it was back-burnered. When it got bad again, the resources weren’t given. After they finally arrived, Petraeus got things moving in the right direction.

As you say, now the potus is pulling the rug out from under the troops just at the time we’re turning the corner.

This entire attack on Iraq, Afghan, and Al qaeda was fought wrong in the first place. It should have been overwhelming force, total national deployment to a war footing, and relentless assault until an unconditional surrender.

And if we weren’t going to make that commitment, then we should have engaged in a retaliation rather than a war. Hit those places and people hard who had injured us, toppled their governments, taken their lives, removed their weapons, and then, as we departed, sent a message that any more shenanigans and we’d do it again.

The things is, you and I disagree on less than you think.

I think that Afghanistan has been horribly mismanaged - until this year. Now we have a shot.

As you say, now the potus is pulling the rug out from under the troops just at the time we’re turning the corner.

obama has been accomplishing everything he wanted to. He blew the agreement with Iraq to keep troops there and now the Iraqi's have to worry about the rise of islamic radicalism after we are gone. Egypt is now being taken over by islamic radicals and Christians are being persecuted and forced out. Libya has had a revolution and now Al Queda has planted their flag there. Syria is seeing their dictator under siege now.

The constant in all of this is govts are being replaced with sharia driven legal systems run by radical muslims and the push towards reforming the Arab countries is being set back.

It is criminal to send our troops anywhere if we aren't going to do everything to support them and win. I don't know if we can overcome the damage that obama has done. We still haven't overcome the damage jimmy carter caused. The only answer I have in the short term is obama has got to go.

Can someone tell me why we’re there again?

Taliban. Terrorists that want to wage war on America and have the means to do so.

Why don't they?

Our borders have been a wide open lawless free for all for the past 10 years during wartime. They could send a boat over, enter Mexico, drive a truck across...Instead of the usual truck packed with 65 illegals, it could be something a bit more dangerous. Drive to a Walmart parking lot in Houston and... Bang..

If the Mexicans can drag in 2000 tons of dope, and God knows what else every few months...What's stopping the Mideast gangs?

Insults, how typical.

I don't take government incompetence by Statist and IR buffoonery lightly, especially if it leads to individuals to become sitting ducks and resources wasted.

This is not about a certain CIC it's about the implementation of idiotic IRs that were being applied by the previous CIC as well as his dad and the Sink Emperor (By listening to the "sounds" of State Department "know-it-alls" in comfortable air conditioned offices).
