Cain momentum continues; South could be key

Herman Cain's rise in the polls appears to be no fluke. Unlike some other Republican presidential contenders who have flamed out fast after auditioning as the conservative antidote to Mitt Romney, Cain is still riding high atop public opinion surveys. "They said I was the flavor of the week," the Georgia businessman said at an appearance Friday on a campaign swing through Alabama. "But four weeks later the Cain campaign still tastes good!" Cain lacks the money and organization of his top-tier GOP competitors. But, so far, he's survived several high-profile campaign blunders and an onslaught of attacks on his signature 9-9-9 tax overhaul plan. And despite the sudden rise to the top tier of the GOP, Cain is still doing things his own way.

If we are to be blessed by having Cain become our nominee, it will be because he's run a campaign that the elite establishment RINOs can't understand. They can continue discounting Cain, calling him the flavor of the week (that lasts for months...LOL!), and enabling Romney to maintain his false sense of entitlement. Romney can continue squandering his enormous campaign warchest on strategies to defeat the only competition he's able to perceive: Perry. No matter that Perry is near the bottom of the polls, Romney and his ilk are blinded by Perry's money and establishment credentials. The best thing for the Cain campaign is the willful ignorance of the GOP.

I think I'll send Herman some more money today. :-)

The problem more ‘realistic’ conservatives tend to to turn a ‘blind’ eye to the backroom deals their guy made (who ever he is) to get things done when the damn well shouldn’t had made them.

No candidate is a saint but for ‘realistic’ conservatives your candidate always seem to be a bit more of one than the other guys.

There’s a line from the movie ‘Open Range’ that goes

“Somethings gnaw on a man worse than dieing.”

Well to me there are often things about voting for ‘realistic’ candidates that gnaw on me worse than losing.

I totally agree with you...and one of the reasons I like Herman is because he is doing things different than everyone else.

I was raised in the south (southern GA, northern FL) during the 60s. I recall the gas stations had 3 restrooms, Men, Women & Blacks. Schools were completely segregated as were restaurants and other common commercial outlets. Racial hatred was rife with white on black crime being the most prevalent.

One incident that remains in my mind was when my school bus was stopped by police one morning at a fork in the road. Our route would normally have us going left at the fork but on this day the police had us go right. As our bus made the awkward turn the reason for the detour became visible to me and the other 2 dozen or so students on the bus. It was a black man hanging from one of the climbing hooks used by linemen on a utility pole. The man had been lynched. At that point all the racial hate I had heard about became real.

I'm not sure why I felt compelled to share that with you, perhaps because you said you are from the segregated south. I'm sure you have your stories as well. That was the worst of mine.

I know Mr. Cain has probably experienced a lot of hate in his lifetime directed at him by people who just can't get past race. But to see that he has such a very positive attitude in spite of it speaks volumes as to what kind of man he is. He deserves our support and he has mine.

“if they wanted a woman Hillary would be running for reelection. I have said this many times and I am still waiting for a woman to tell me I am wrong, so far it has not happened... the FReepers who said that Obama had closed the door for any black man were 180 degrees out. He may just have opened the door for a REAL black man.”

As a woman, I have to take it as an insult we would vote blindly on gender and looks instead of character and political leanings. That said, I could not support Bachmann because she wears too much eye makeup.

Bachmann was polling at 2% and isn't in contention anymore. If some of these Conservative candidates drag out an obvious pointless and futile race for too long it's going to hurt the Conservative movement and only help Romney.

I don't want to end up with Romney as the nominee, and Conservative politicians having hurt their reputation and career's, along with the entire Conservative movement. Herman Cain's the only Conservative left who's doing good in the polls, and I think it's getting close to the time other Conservative candidates think about dropping out of the race and endorsing him over Romney. I think Cain wins the nomination easily if that happens.

YES WE CAIN!

The race is between Romney and Cain. Those are our choices, and it's not hard to see that Cain is the actual Conservative we all need to get behind now. It's going to hurt the reputation of candidates like Bachmann if they stay in too long, and rightfully so, and that doesn't help the Conservative movement. Bachmann is good on the issues, but she faded for whatever reason, and she's not going to make a comeback.

Now we have Romney and Cain to choose from. Romney would probably endorse Obama if he loses out of resentment except that he will be looking for the VP spot, or some other cabinet position. I literally wouldn't be surprised for a guy like Romney to endorse Obama out of spite considering this is probably his last real chance at the Presidency, and he's an unprincipled opportunist who's pretended to hold just about every politically view in existence at one point or another. It's pretty pathetic that a guy like this is so close to getting the nomination when we have such an ideal TEA party candidate. Cain's not a career politician, and he's a real Conservative.

The guy has even talked seriously about stopping illegal immigration. Talking tough may be different than taking action, but illegal immigration has been ignored to the point we don't even get actual tough talk on the issue by Presidential front runners, and haven't in as long as I can remember.

The next President will either be Obama, Romney, or Cain. It's not a difficult choice in deciding who to support. The real Conservatives will support Cain, but unfortunately there are many who consider themselves Conservative, but vote for who they are told to vote for by the GOP establishment. These people may actually be Conservative, but instead of educating themselves on the candidates they trust the Republican leadership and don't pay enough attention to politics. Those people need to be more informed about the candidates. A lot of us know people like that who we can talk to and probably get them supporting Cain.

No he wouldn't. Perry's horrible on illegal immigration which makes him as worthless as Romney. If you aren't going to seriously address one of the most important and ignored issues we face as a nation then you don't deserve anymore respect than Obama.

Illegal immigration is literally destroying the nation, and very few politicians seem to care. Herman Cain is the first Presidential front runner to even talk tough on the issue in my lifetime. To not even have serious tough talk from an electable candidate on such an important issue is just pathetic. I'll let Obama destroy the nation a little faster before I support anyone else who doesn't talk about stopping this problem, never mind a guy like Perry who is pro-illegal immigration based on his words and actions. I would just be supporting a slightly slower destruction of the nation.

I'm sick of hearing about all these foreign threats that aren't even comparable to the danger we are facing from Mexico. They are our real enemy, and have done more harm to the U.S. than any other nation such as Iran. They are our biggest threat, not to mention any attack from another country could easily involve entering the U.S. from Mexico. The Mexican government has been caught helping illegal immigrants enter the country while advising them on what to do once here. That's something that justifies an actual war, but we do nothing while they talk down to us constantly.

Now Palin needs to endorse Cain and start campaigning for him. I will be disappointed in her if she doesn't. I'm going to be disappointed with anyone who doesn't get involved during the primary in support of Herman Cain over Romney, and instead wait for Romney to win then helping him out.

If Cain wins the GOP nomination, he will likely win in a landslide.

I'd be just fine with that, but given what issue 2 is going to end up as, I don't think Ohio is anywhere near a slam dunk for Cain nor do I think a Cain landslide is anywhere near likely - the electorate is too evenly matched right now.

Guys like Cain who grew up when racism was a real problem see the vast change in race relations in their lifetime that the race-baiters refuse to see because they would have nothing to do if they accepted the truth. Racism was once a problem in the South, and north even though this is ignored, but it’s dramatically different now and everyone knows it. The vast majority of all Americans treat people as individuals, and form their opinion of that person on their character instead of race. Liberals know this, but the race-baiting liberals can’t admit it for political reasons, and some liberal “civil rights” activist have to pretend to have an actual purpose and stay relevant.

Bachmann has no one but herself to blame. She had a boost from the Iowa straw poll, was picking up speed but then spun out and hit a tree over Gardasil. She went berserk and blew her own credibility out of the water. Trying the "Mom" gambit didn't help any.
