Man who shot Minneapolis robber won't be charged
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | October 28, 2011 | MATT McKINNEY

A citizen who pursued an armed robber and fatally shot him last week in south Minneapolis acted in self-defense and will not face criminal charges, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

....snip....

On Oct. 20, the man saw Evanovich pistol-whip a woman and take her purse. The witness, who had a permit to carry a handgun, drove up to Evanovich and asked for the purse back. Evanovich pointed his gun at the man and told him to mind his own business, and the man, still sitting in his car, aimed his own weapon and fired, according to a criminal complaint.

This is an interesting story that has unfolded here in Minneapolis over the last week.

Basically a "good boy" who "was turning his life around" had been committing a series of muggings in South Minneapolis. His last mugging was witnessed by a hero who stood up for the lady being robbed and the result is the "good boy" won't be robbing anyone else.

The day after the shooting the family of the mugger was on the news demanding that the good Samaritan be charged with murder. The police investigate and find that the sister of the deceased was involved in the robberies and the "good boy's" mom was seen using checks from one of the robbery victims.

Kind of falls into the shoot one’s parents then plead for mercy as an orphan category. The family’s sympathy factor went into the toilet when their complicity in the crimes was discovered.

Honestly, how stupid do you have to be to point a gun at a total stranger who just saw you pistol whip an elderly woman? The stranger knows you have a gun, but he rolls down the window and says give him the purse anyway. What does a person w a couple of functioning brain cells deduce? The stranger has a gun and is prepared to use it.

The twists this story has taken has to discourage Minneapolis Progressives and send them into a deep funk.

Too bad . . .
So sad.

"We prefer that armed citizens do not chase after criminals.

They would rather have unarmed citizens chase after criminals, especially criminals who got their guns from Fast and Furious.

This is the part that I have to give the Mpls Attorney credit for. When this story first came out I was certain that we would see charges against the shooter.

We don't have a "stand your ground" law here in MN yet and have a "duty to retreat" on the books. By not charging the shooter, the attorney is sending signals to criminals and the law abiding alike, IMHO.

Being that the sister was directly involved in the robbery that led to the shooting I would think that she would be charged in her brother’s death as well as the mugging.

That would really be justice

It being Minnesota, that’s probably expecting a bit too much.

You can't do that. You see, it's a black family and they get special preferential treatment for being a minority, but especially being a black minority. Personally I am still reeling in disbelief that the Mpls DA decided not to prosecute the Good Samaritan who acted in self defense and shot down this ghetto punk assailant. I would still not be surprised to see Eric Holder and his Civil Rights dept at the DOJ come after the Good Samaritan for civil rights violations. It's happened in numerous other cases.

While most of the local media outlets continue to refer to the shooter as a “Good Samaritan”, the anchor on KARE-11 tonight called him a “vigilante”.

That's too bad, which anchor was it?

The guy was cleared and never even arrested and this was the Mpls police he was dealing with! Seems like calling him a vigilante after all hes been through would amount to slander.

Have you by chance heard the race of the good Samaritan reported? That information could add a little clarity to the unexpected sanity the Hennepin DA has shown in this case.

Well, if he had any sense, he wouldn’t have been out there robbing and pistol whipping old women. But I do get your point!

It is hard to imagine but many kids have parents who teach them that robbing others is how to get by. Sad but true. Quite a family enterprise...
