(Reuters) - Presidential hopeful Herman Cain's quirky "smoking ad" may have mystified many Americans, but according to a new Reuters/Ipsos online poll, it has drawn a sharp line between Republicans who identify with the Tea Party and those who don't.
The ad, which shows Cain's chief of staff Mark Block puffing on a cigarette for no apparent reason, created enormous Internet buzz this week.
Six in 10 of those who strongly identify with the conservative Tea Party movement said they loved or liked the ad.
An almost equal percentage of people who self-identified as mainstream Republicans either disliked or hated it.

The ad will NOT hurt Herman Cain. It will help him a little. Smokers will love it because they’ve been “oppressed” and demonized for years. The, personal liberty people who may not smoke, but, hate Government intrusion into people’s personal lives, will like it and everyone else will forget about it in a few weeks. No harm done.
Fails miserably.
...and Obama is an actual smoker.
The cigarette stink in the oval office is going to be difficult to air out.
I hadn’t seen the ad, but it can be found here, at the bottom of the column:
Frankly, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Big deal.
And now that your logged onto the Free Republic, write "One of the dumbest, creepiest ads Ive ever seen..."
True...But 31% of liberals smoke compared to 20% of conservative. And yes, if Cain want's to push the smoking angle he will gain libertarian votes but at the cost of social conservative votes. I know, I know it's neither, it's a FREEDOM issue. Just doesn't seem to be a smart move.
I'll bet it gets a lot of hits cause the MSM media heads are exploding over it....
Been a conservative all my life and I am certainly acquainted with all types of conservatives, including the kinder gentler so-called social conservatives. From what I see right now ALL conservatives are digging in. A social conservative point of view seems to be the furthermost thing from any ones mind. Everyone is recognizing that the US is in deep kimchee.
The response I have seen from the Smoking Man ad is: kinda of cool Herman Cain - stick up their a$$!
This pile of S*it became our CIC and is still occupying space in the WH. Nov. 2012 won't come soon enough.
I though the ad was clever and the message is clear -
“We will make our own choices - Get Big Brother off our backs”.
BINGO
A Fellini film short....must make the hollywood libs heads explode...pokes fun at them as a plus...harkens back to the 60’s/70’s when Oscar’s went to such films. The films probably made $59.60 in box office, but oh what a great art film it was....LOL
The smell of pure socialist sewage will be harder to air out.
He could have used someone besides that nasty looking Block and then also used another issue besides smoking. This really does send the wrong message. Maybe put God back in schools or less regulations, but smoking is more of a local issue, not a national issue. Seems like a promotional smoking video.
Hogwash.
The results of the poll have nothing to do with liking or not liking the ad.
The results simply show that the Tea Party conservative folks like Cain;
and the establishment rino republicans don’t.
Priceless
“...That smile at the end is horrible...”
-
No, that was the best part!
When did entitlements for empowerment zones become something the tea party cares for? Or, being ABC “American First Black Second and Conservative Third” I just don’t see it man.
;)
