Sometimes it seems as if the GOP Establishment is sleepwalking off a cliff. In 1996, having scored the stunning victories of the off-year congressional elections, the GOP suits dutifully lined up behind the impossible Bob Dole. From the moment Americans realized their choices would be Clinton or Dole, "Bubba" was never behind one day in the polls.
It's looking like déjà Dole all over again. Mitt Romney is the proverbial GOP next-in-liner. After the Tea Party helped Republicans score major victories in '10, the GOP Establishment is hunting desperately for a way to lose the very next election.
Mitt Romney is a wonderful husband and father. He is intelligent and articulate. He rightly rejected religious bigotry, delivering a splendid speech on the topic at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library the last time around.
But he is a terrible candidate. At a time when Americans are hungering for a conviction politician, Mitt Romney is the picture of inconstancy. He will say what he needs to say to get elected. In Massachusetts, he'll campaign as more liberal than Ted Kennedy, a moderate in the mold of Edward Brooke, or a conservative on the make.

F Romney and all of his supporters and enablers. Romney’s just another smarmy ruling class elitist. I think we’ve had enough of that.
As I recall, the only ones who thought Bob Dole and John McCain had a chance of winning were the candidates themselves. Everyone else understood they were throwaways going up against an unbeatable incumbent. The question is whether the ‘establishment’ thinks Obama is unbeatable, and why? Or worse: maybe they don’t want a Republican President this term, since whoever’s in office will have to take the blame for what happens over the next four years? What do they know that they’re not telling us?
I am just short of 72 years old. I have voted Republican ever since I registered at age 21.
I will NEVER vote for Mitt Romney- not even by having to hold my nose.
Bob Dole is a nice man. John McCain got the ‘it;s my turn’ nomination. I voted for Sarah..
I cannot be snookered a 3rd time.
Karl Rove & the ‘establishment east coast elite Republicans’ need to get out into the rest of the country & realize we have had it with their selection process.
Are you listening, Karl Rove?
Romney will lose if he is nominated.
It’s so apparent and yet the GOP E continues to go off the cliff with their moronic “chicken little” rationale.
Mitt Romney’s record is his problem, not his religion -see

I am 68..and have always voted Republican as well..I will stay home if it is Romney... Last time when it was McCain I was going to stay home.. and my pro life son talked me into going to the polls to vote for McCain ...not this time.. I stay home period
Romney seems/looks like a white Obama clone and I for one won’t vote for him in the Republicans Primaries. Cain, Gingrich and Perry are far better choices here. Plus, I don’t trust the MSM’s polls on whose the most likely Repub to defeat the Won????

“Romney seems/looks like a white Obama clone and I for one wont vote for him in the Republicans Primaries.”
I won’t vote for Romney for anything, ever, including primaries, general election, etc.

“Mitt Romney is a wonderful husband and father.”
Where is the BARF alert?
Wonderful?? Ask the poor dog.
He will never get my vote! There is nothing he could do to get my vote.
What incumbent was John McCain running against?
Bob Dole, “ Hey I got seniority.”
John McCain, “ It`s my turn dammit.”
Both pathetic candidates and both losers.
So now it`s Romney`s turn?
See the end result coming ?
At the tail end of the 2008 primaries, I had only RINOs left to vote for. Why? Because lots more people voted in the primaries for those RINOs than voted for conservatives.
Likewise, if Romney is the nominee it will be because a whole lot of registered Republicans voted for him. A whole lot of Freepers don't understand this simple fact.
So whining about how we'll all hold our breath till we turn purple if Romney's nominated is not very productive.
Talking to your moderate and undecided Republican friends - whose votes the winner will have to have - about why Romney would make a dismal President is a far better strategy.
If McRomney is the GOP nominee, America has four more years of O’bummer. Can’t get more simple than that.
